my girlfriend is returning with me for a brief visit to vancouver. she has her visa, but we need to change plans in the states. will she also need some sort of visa to allow her this short wait in the states? i have been unsuccessful in locating the answer i need. would anyone have the answer, or the correct agency to contact? thanks, kev

sorry,
sorry, planes..............not plans
She should not need
a visa, but in the USA in many airports there is no transit secure area, so she could walk out and this may make something different. I am going through Sunday so if you can wait a few days, I will ask right at the Immigration counter when I pass...they will be the people who really know. Email you that day with what they say.
Based on previous posts
this can be a major hurdle--see the uSA consulate Managua website. Doubtful you can buy her a ticket without this, but even if you can it would behoove you to straighten this out before laying down any cash.

And this is another reason
And this is another reason for wanting direct flights to Canada.
Sounds like a Canadian
problem to me. Maybe your pilots cannot find it. ..Go through Mexico or Cuba or the Sudan and quit bitching about the USA. . Talk to Harper. I'll mention it next time I see him. Maybe if we could get a promise that NICAs won't bolt from the airport once they clear in the states (oh no, they wouldn't do that..ha) this would not be a problem.ZZT
Excuse me?
I didn't mention the US nor did I mean anything other than this issue wouldn't exist if there were more direct flights to Canada.
that would
definitely fix the problem,I wonder why Air Canada does not offer at least a once a week flight, maybe not enough canucks and or Nicaraguans living in Canada flying to Nicaragua, thus not a profit friendly move?
it's a shame really for you Canadian folks to go through the B.S at Miami/US customs.
I asked in Houston
They used to have a holding area but do not now. So she needs a C1 visa. The guy and another one he called over said that it should be no problem in MGA (of course, easy for them to say,but they seemed to know policy). Said they would not hold her up at all with that and that she would just walk into the airport like anybody else. They think same in Miami.
Good luck.

amazing
thanks for your effort. i phoned continental and they told me that houston does have a holding area and a c-1 visa is not necessary. having said that, i think we will apply for one on the side of caution. thanks, K
At a minimum
verify with the consulate that Continental is telling the truth. They have made serious errors on my last 4 flights, including not having a pilot in Houston, which is their hub, and moving a flight up 6 hours without telling me.

On a nicer note
If she has a Canadian visa in her possession, tickets for onward flights that leave with in 12 hoursof arrival in USA and a few other minor things she can get a C1 visa at the embassy in two working days My neighbor just did it.

c-1
hey thanks for your offer and input ! i managed to pin down the necessity of the c-1 visa this morning online. so, she must visit the U.S. embassy in managua to make application for it? wondering the perameters they set around this 12 hour window if they issue before you have ticket in hand. i can remember sitting in a holding room in L.A. enroute from el salvadore 10-15 years ago with my salvadorian wife. perhaps it would also be prudent to book a ticket through an airport that has a secure holding area. again, thanks for your offer to quiz the officials. bon voyage!
c1 visa
To apply for a c1 visa is the same process as applying for a tourist visa. she has to pay $140 fee + $12 for a call and they have they right to deny it if they feel so.
I will ask in Houston
Sunday and let you know. I bet Miami and Houston both have one.
