Advise for a USA vehicle owner in NicaraguaSubmitted by kcohen on 18 September, 2005 - 15:29.
Can anyone attempt to offer any advice as to whether or not I can leave Nicaragua and return to renew the permiso temporal for my vehicle with USA plates? I want to stay in Nic. But I am not too excited to pay the taxes for nationalization yet. ( categories: )

I am guessing yes
In Article 134 of Ley 431 ( http://nicaliving.com/files/ley431.pdf ) it doesn't restrict re-entry. It also doesn't specify the time you can have the vehicle here before it needs to be registered but I know that is 30 days.
The law also at least implies that you just can't drive it so I good guess is that you can keep it here and not drive it and still not be in trouble when you finally decide to register it. I have never seen anyone here get excited about stuff not getting done on time. For example, you have 45 days to transfer the title of a car. I did it at 6+ months with no questions asked.

thanks so much for this quick response as my final legal day is soon now that i found somebody who's knowledgable, would it be too much to ask a recommendation for a border (exit and reentry) whether it be Hond or CR and how long I MIGHT HAVE TO STAY BEFORE RETURNING TO NICARAGUA?
cheers kc, your local lago cocibolca fishing and isla tour guide at your service (I aslo have a 21 foot Searay Powerboat for Tours)
You can pick
I have never done the Honduras trip (and I am a lot closer) so I have no data. But, if you are interested, do it. The road is good.
Costa Rica is an easy one from where you are. I am going to guess 72 hours as that is the time for people but that is just a guess. I will also assert just "doing it" rather than asking for official answers is your best bet. I have brought a non-Nicaraguan care in three times and never had any debate. That was from CR.
