Cheap when they just hack a steak off like this. 15 cords a pound, 2 pounds was enough for 4 and the cat! $1.50 for the fish part of lunch. Add rice and a cucumber and tomato salad.... Mmmm.

This photo came up again in the random image box...
I should add that Sailfish is a protected fish, a sports fish and should not be landed but released. That's the reason "Its not popular at restaurants", they can't sell them there, hence cheaper to buy.
However, from time to time they get caught on long lines or nets and are dead when they haul them aboard (?).
Just wanted to clear that up so as not to mislead.

didn't know it was a protected fish.... but not an issue for me... i've never gone fishing for one.... maybe one day!

From one of the new fish shops as you enter the dock area.
There are 4 small vendors and I assume they have family out fishing, so in a way its close to right off the boat. Vela is not popular with the restaurants hence cheaper for the locals. I think the flavor is good and the price is right.
Had some black tuna last time, and got all excited about the exotic name but it was big let down. Very "bloody" meat, tried soaking it in milk (like you do liver) but it had no effect. Cat loved it, she did good off my plate on that one.
Where do you buy it?
In a market or directly from the fishermen?
