Article: SJDS/Survivor

New LA Times article for dissection:

BTW, I think "wildlife" and "savage" are more or less synonomous...or better put- "savage wildlife" is redundant..

Beaches not closed for 7 months

Regarding the quotes form the Surfer and the fisherman's wife:

"Here in San Juan we live from fishing," said Iris Villegas Mendoza, the wife of a fisherman and mother of five. "We've lost days [of income], and it has hurt us."

(Fishermen that could prove they would lose money were hired by survivor and got good money to sit in pangas and act as guides, steering people around and away from the closed beaches)

Surfer Carlos Siezar complained that three of the best surf beaches have been closed for filming. "We can't do our thing," he said. "And it's been like that for nearly seven months."

(Some were in fact closed from the beginning of July and will reopen at the end of September.)

Either way, BOTH quotes appear in a story on the Surfing World web site: http://www.surfingworld.com but the comments are not attributed to anyone.

My press contact at Survivor would have gladly answered all her questions, if she had gone to see him.

As you say, it is quite possible that Tracey from LA was indeed 'not here'. She would have come up with a better photo no?

That turned out to be a

That turned out to be a decent article, although it got off to a bad start. I can't believe that the best they could do was an AP photo from 2006. As with many other articles, it makes you ask if they were ever even here.

Savage and Wildlife

are not synonomous. A frog is wildlife. A panther is (at least may be) savage. But by its intrinsic nature, a panther is not savage unless they act it out. Best to stick with wildlife. Don't mind me, I am having a slow day.ZZT

Wildlife, wild life, and savages

Many years ago one of my forestry professors made light of one of my classmate´s papers by explaining that, ¨Wildlife are the animals that one encounters in the forest. Wild life, he went on to explain, are his students that he encounters when he goes downtown on the weekend!¨

Savages are the wild life that really get out of hand! Come see me in Alamikamba if you want to see examples up close!
