Question about satellite internet service
Yesterday, in search of no contract satellite internet service available in northern NH, I connected with a guy who said he would provide the dish, a compass (!!), cable, modem, etc. for me to set up at my house....and the conversation led to me asking if then the equipment would be mine, and if so, could I take it with me to, say, Central America. He said, yes, Costa Rica, and a couple of other countries - so I asked about Nicaragua. Ah, he says.. "Nicaragua....the government doesn't like satellite providers. They're pretty strict about that sort of thing."
This is confusing to me - if I can connect to a satellite, and am willing to pay the service, what does the government have to do with it? Am I missing something? Anyone else run into this issue?

Taxes
In Nicaragua (and Costa Rica for that matter) service providers are licensed by TELCOR. There are license fees for them and tax revenue. If you don't use one of the licensed providers, you are doing an end-run on the taxes.
so....
if I brought down my equipment, set it up, and beamed in on somebody's satellite - (I am not sure if this could be done, mind you) and got internet access, I'd be in some kind of violation?
What's the alternative? I don't want to buy equipment here, only to have to unload it in a few months because I can't use it there. If I can use it in Nica, fine - but the question is how could I do that? I wouldn't mind using whoever is a provider, just so long as I can have access and use my equipment.
Check with Hughes
Some people here use it. They brought in the dish and set it up themselves. Fine if all you want is emails at a high price.
Movistar 3.5G 1 Meg speed 57.50 per month taxes in.
Good luck
Probably should spend your time on something more relevant
to moving here. Sounds like a lot of bother for two months of TV in NH before you move here. You could possibly use the equipment here...likely not easily if at all....and it would require a lot more help than you can get on this site. Better spend the time with the steel bands as not a lot of them here.ZZT
