Nicanor's Farewell Address
Due to a unfair conduct of the site owner, i say good bye to the ,members of NL, I'm pretty sure that my conduct hasn't violated any properly behavior either make offense to anybody.
Happen that sometimes some people can't handle the pressure and want to be completely unchallenged and irrefutable.
In the thread http://nicaliving.com/node/16662 one of my comments was label in red capital letters like a HIJACK THREAD, so first i inquire about that and later i make some comments with some ironic sense, both were erased, but not the label on my comments.
I feel the treatment i received from the site owner is discriminatory, because is other threads were the behavior of the members is sometime very conflictive and the response is not the same. So like the common pointing in the past about my bad English, i think is the same kind of prejudice to think that my comments aren't constructed in a some "Anglo way".
I hope this last post will be not erased, because isn't any offense to anybody, either a HIJACK THREAD.
I wish to everybody a nice stance in y country, and i only ask to give the best of you to the whole society not only to a small group.
Now why would a Nicaraguan wanna be on a gringo site where all the gringos know more about being Nicaraguan than you do? Vaya Con Dios amigo You have my respect.

That's too bad.
Without nicaraguans sharing their points of view, this site loses a lot of its appeal.
you are right
....what else can I say?
Can Nicanor come back under old name
Sandinog ?
Yup i received the PM as well
As one of nicanor's former adversary, I have to say I will miss him. Interestingly, the more we argued and debated, the more we found out, "Hell, we are not all that far apart in our opinions!". Interesting how life never seizes to teach us about relationships.
I sure hope nicanor will change his mind and come back to share his perspective with us. We don't have to agree with him. At least we would have his point of view.
No matter what you do, I wish you well my friend!
Me too
The thread hijack was not warrented. It actually was on topic. The question asked about history of health care and he related his history. which while not old time, was in the past so forms a part of the topic. I have not seen the posts that were deleted, so cannot say for sure, but I did not find his posts offensive at all...and surely balance some of the stuff on here by people with a lot less experience.
Kind of BS that he is gone.
ZZT
Offensive or counter-productive
- Try to get a content creator to post on-topic.
- Continually fix content organization.
Jon decided to try method 2, I tried method 1. Both got labeled as discrimination. In nicanor's case, his (deleted) followups were noise—that is, complaints about the label rather than anything contributing to the thread. They were posts that make the site less useful for those that come here looking for information.I have no problem with his description of dealing with care in Hospital San Juan de Dios. It pretty much fits what I have seen. While we have had threads discussing current medical care here, another one could certainly be created.
That said, I asked a question placing it in the history category. It is about how health care worked pre-revolution. I am interested and it is pretty clear others are as well. In the future, when someone is searching the site it would be nice if a thread about pre-revolution health care in Nicaragua actually had something to do with that subject.
Was my decision to label the hijack post as such discriminatory? I will be the first to admit that the fact that it was nicanor/sandinog that made the post was a reason to consider the label. Why? Because, as has been pointed out by many NL members, he hijacks threads all the time. Seldom can I make a post without it turning into a who Ortega is a crook discussion.
So, what should we do? That is, if NicaLiving is going to be generally useful rather than an "in crowd" site, how do we make it work. We know there is a problem as we regularly hear how difficult it is to find thing. Jon and I know how much time it takes to even manage it to its current level. I don't seem to have a list of people ready to moderate, index, ... Beyond that, even with infinite resources, the current software has some limitations. Jon, I, and others have talked about these limitations but any "fix" is actually a reasonable amount of software development.
Threads are most often
hijacked...sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. I don't have stats but am on here enough to get a good feel. Most of the time, the divergence is much more than the one in question. I do understand your points about this being disruptive and they are. They are ruining the site. Witness the MM war that is raging on several forums right now. That is 100X worse than this. Lets be fair.ZZT
Yes, they are
And we, where we is currently nicareal and myself, are trying to address it. To me personally, a thread I created to gather particular information immediately getting hijacked was much more disruptive to me because it was something I actually was reading. I have not been reading the MM BS because I am not interested.
That said, here is an offer. Jon and I can edit comments. If you are the author of a thread and you feel it has been hijacked, let one of us know and, assuming we agree, we will add a "hijacked marker". Based on the constraints of the current system, that is about as close to "fair" as we can get. Most important is how to ask—send a PM.
maybe the owner and his friends
should just go down the list and pick who they want on this sight and kick everyone else off. this way they can speak only what they want to speak about and their would only me 100% agreement.
but even then i bet after a while they would disagree.
i cannot see the problem hear. still i say people should have the right to say that they want. that does not make me have to like it or read it.
i feel like this sight is a big invitation with strings attached. like a big baby saying you can play with me as long as you so as i say.
"i say people should have the right to say that they want. "
Vern, if it were only that simple.
We are dealing with so much more than being a soapbox for everyone.
Nicanor decided to leave for reasons of his own. His choice, his move. People come and go frequently. Without some structure the site would fade off the search engines very quickly.
Those that have hosted a site will understand. Those that haven't, well give it a try and see what it is like.
In any case nicanor's account is active ( at least I hope it is) and available to him. All he has to do is log in and post.
opinions
so what is that is so bad that people are having to deal with? what is it that people are doing that is sooooo bad.
what is the big deal?
so you or the owner does not like something, so what who cares.
99.9% of what the owner writes about every single day seems like allot of crap but then again that is my problem not his. i just dont read it.
that does not give me the right to me mean to the owner or tell him that i dont like his post or that he should not post hear again.
why do i say this
well it is like this if i dont like the owners post or agree with it that fine but if i ban or be mean to him because i will miss the things that he sais that i do like.
and every now and thin he will write something that i do like.
Someone really made me really mad because i asked for baby water in Nicaragua, should i kick him off the sight, no but he could have responded a little differantly.
my post made him mad but for me it was a good question.
who is to say what is important to post and what is not important.

Simple indexing should resolve your organizational problem but as an Linux admin you already know that. Same way one sets up a bookmark tree. Health -care pre-revolutionary or no should go under Health or Medical not under " History".
Was my decision to label the hijack post as such discriminatory? ¿Buena Pregunta, No? How about someone comes along and stamps a big red tag on your personal answer to a question regarding Nicaraguan healthcare. You going to make a little "noise" too?. Well "noise" is something that Latinos have developed to a fine art form and Nicaraguans are no exception. Maybe they do it to upset gringos, or Usanos, or whatever word you wanna use for foreigner. Nor am I immune to "noise" personally( give me a grenade for every evangelical boombox going in Nicaragua. It's even worse than that guy caterwauling on the muezzin with his electronic prayers to Allah in Islamic countries.)
Now in Nicanor's case his "noise" appears to grate on you in that fashion. You lay all this other stuff down re your reasoning without just saying-the guy grates on ya-and he grates on ya because he is in your face on Nicaraguan stuff and you are the resident guru. And as to Daniel Ortega being a thief or no, that is a question you could well put under History. I believe it has been well documented enough.
It is often the habit on Nicaliving to talk of the Nicas as something separate from ourselves-in many ways they are. The concept of honor is quite different. I think our real estate developer from SJDS would agree having lived abroad long enough to know something about life in the pueblo. It's sorta like what I tell Colombians when I meet the good one. I have more respect for the Colombians than any other group of Latinos-the reason for that is that if you have a Colombian who is a true friend then he or she is going to stand and die with you if it gets down to it? You can't say that about all Latinos but that is the type of honor found among Latin people and not really well understood by Los Nortenos. You have to grow up in or live adjacent to Latino streets to get to know that is the strength how they are. I don't know how well you can get to understand that when you're an old bugger coming to the Latin world in the senior citizen part of your life. So maybe that's why you think you are under personal attack when someone questions your wisdom incessantly
You know one of the very first things I asked Nicanor or SandinoG was he a closet racist against gringos. He assured me he was not and I discovered I had been wrong in my initial assessment of the man. The fault was mine in thinking that way. We are friends now and as i asked him -what the hell is a Nicaraguan doing on a gringo website where the gringos are more professional Nicaraguans than a true- blood Nicaraguan. Guess it was because maybe he felt he had something worth teaching all of us Nicaraguan experts. Personally speaking. the who is more Nicaraguan thread was funny- None of us gringos will ever be Nicaraguan except for those who have it in the blood and the genes
Old Soldiers. . .
If this is what happened, I regret this very much. I didn't read Nicanor's posts that were deleted. But I think the red [THREAD HIJACK] ticket was not appropiate. The information that Nicanor posted was related to the subject and not offensive to anyone. Nicanor just added his Nica experience and that made it interesting to read. His post didn't contain any challenge to other posters to divert from the original topic. I have seen many posts in forum topics lately that were far more off topic and more offensive and that weren't deleted. My interpretation is that the [THREAD HIJACK] in itself was the real cause of the distraction of the subject in this thread. So the ticket should have been deleted as well because it was clearly a HIJACK in itself. Maybe the administrator overreacted a little bit??
But an old saying tells me that "Old Soldiers Never Die". I hope Nicanor will return soon under his new 3rd identity...
Sometimes,
what is left and what is removed tells a more significant story.
The "Anglo theory" is something seen alot here
And I will miss him too. He seemed like a very decent man, the type that demonstrated a great deal of honesty and substance. I hope he changes his mind and doesn't let his experience here affect the way he feels about gringos in general. Especially, seeing the way they stick together to defend one another.
Nicanor's "health" comments.
Aside from sending him a PM making sure his daughter was OK, which a lot of members did, I thought that the "Accepted Comment" about Canadian health care was misleading and factually incorrect. I didn't understand the "red mark" but do understand that it's never too late to apologize and make an amend.
