Is there a good bicycle shop in Nicaragua?

I just moved here in June and have yet to locate a good bike shop in Nicaragua. I would like to buy a high-end bike (Trek, Cannondale, and the like), but am at a loss to do so in this country. My expectations were that there would be one (that's right, one) shop here selling that type of bicycle. After all, there must be serious bikers here - I have seen several around here on very nice bikes, and decked out in the latest gear. I need to stop the next rider I see and ask where he/she purchased such things.

Does anyone on this site know of a shop?

People have different ideas of what "good" is, regarding anything, including bicycles. Sadly, I cannot recommend such a shop in Nicaragua, nor could I in Honduras (in Guatemala City there is one, and cycling is taken seriously there, in some circles). Anyway, my guess is that if you stop a Nicaraguan rider on a first-rate mountion or racing bike, they sort of just "brought it back" via Miami, or had someone do this for them. Until recently (there are a lot of checked bag and cargo guidelines which changed in the last 3 years, and some are in effect only at Christmas and spring-break time), many people in need of such things, subsidized their or a friend's vacation to the States, by bringing back things like camping or sports or photo gear, instead of paying the special order + IVA taxes. If you find a shop later, please post a reply to your own nicaliving question, but unless ther is a club or smaller outfit in Managua, there might not be such a place -- yet.

Bicycle Prices

We have about 25 good bicycle shops in Puerto Cabezas. If you have a problem with a chain or a flat tire; they can solve the problem.

The great thing about the bicycle shops in Port is that bicycles sell new for under C$2,000 (U$120) and not like some of those places like Wal-Mart in the USA (America) where you might have to pay U$150 or more.

One time, I saw in a magazine in the USA (America) where some of these fancy bicycles were selling from U$1,000 to U$5,000. WOW. :-) _____________________________________________________________________
