is likely. Apostille costs vary by state. My fee was $25 each and $35 if I wanted same day service. Had six docs and so that was 210. The NICA counsel charged me $15 each and $25 if I waited. Another $150. Total 260....of course I did it myself and this was on top of $200 in translation and primary noterization. So $460 and I paid the "rush" charge on all. Would have been $340 if I did normal turnaround. And I actually paid more for Apostilles than I could have gotten away with. But did it for insurance. The notary was the same on all documents, so only one apostile is really necessary, as that really certifies that the notary is real.

3K on the container is one the high side, but depends what comes with it. Customs broker and warehouse here is $500 and delivery/unloading to house in MGA is about another $300, so if that is not included it is high, otherwise in line, Do yourself a big favor, get the broker before you ship and consign to them. Okay on the apostille... new Submitted by mujermagnetica on Mon, 2010/02/08 - 11:37.

...It was an internet cost and I was in a hurry. Lesson learned for others (I hope). The translation was $465. I had 15 pages of documents in total, if I recall and these were California costs.

The shipper delivers the container to my house, I have 3 days to pack, they move it to LAX and then to Managua. After it clears customs they move it to my house for another 3 days of unpacking. But I am going to speak to the broker you recommended after I hear what is happening to my husband's asylum case. It may be that I asked for residency all for nothing, because if he receives asylum I will qualify too as his wife, so that could be a blessing in speeding up my process. The other shippers wanted to charge me $6000 for less, so I thought I got a deal. As long as most of our stuff gets there safely with minimal theft, I'm happy.

I've been pricing an assortment of shipping costs for later new Submitted by mujermagnetica on Mon, 2010/02/08 - 12:27.

Those types of things you can't live without, that your pals and family will later send you. The cheapest I've found is Copa Airlines box specials. They range (depending on the special and size of the box) from $75 to $240 I think. Do you know if there are cheaper solutions than Copa? I know for the same box, Fed Ex, UPS, and the USPS have quoted $700 on up. Maybe I haven't found the best deal there either?

And here's an idea I'm not sure has been discussed here. Joint shipments for those who have extra space in boxes or containers. I offered some space and found a person who had a need in my container. I'm wondering if this site has created a system where people can help others by sharing shipping expenses. For instance, if I have an item I need that takes only half of a 20 x 20 x 20 box on Copa for $120, maybe another person could fill the rest of the box and split the shipping cost? Is there a section where we could do this and what is the legality of this...assuming the items shipped are legal for importation?

It might make a difference for those on limited incomes. Centralized points of shipping could be arranged for delivery. For instance, for those in the Los Angeles or Bay Areas, I have family and friends that would ship for me. Maybe a Floridian or a New Yorker would do the same for people of that area, etc.

Can someone comment on this?

Yes new Submitted by ATZ on Mon, 2010/02/08 - 12:56.

in Miami there are several shippers who do this. They ship containers regularly and you buy space. They clear customs and you pay them the duty either before or after they clear. Not a bad deal if you can wait a couple of weeks. Some are better suited to big items and some to like a single box. I would think the same thing in LA. Or if you have people coming down or you going to visit, you can put a lot of things in your checked luggage and generally does not get checked here. i have been through MGA 20 times and never once stopped for a bag check....and a few times big bags.
