What would it cost to get braces (no, not for me) in Nicaragua. No clue what it now costs in the U.S. but I was told It would cost about $2000 in Nicaragua and this is just for part of the mouth. Does that sound right?

Costa Rica
I have an outstanding dentist in CR, she was born in the US and educated in a Catholic school in Philladelphia, modern office, latest equipment, married to Arnoldo Fournier (did the cosmetic surgery for my wife, who at 55 looks 35). She's in San Jose. I can provide a referral when I get down there this week if you like. I was going to look you up and see CoolTop anyway.
As an aside, I was VERY impressed with the quality of medical (and dental) care in CR. You have to go a step above the "free" medicine, but the hospital I used in San Jose (Cima?) was every bit as modern and clean as anything in the US. Charges were reasonable, everyone spoke English, and everyone (including the Tico's) paid with credit cards. The only difference between Cima and a hospital in the US was everyone in CR was very friendly and engaged; they spent a lot more time answering my questions. No long fingernails with colonies of MRSA growing under them, piercings, tatoos. All looked and acted very professional.
$2k?
Orthodontic costs are often all over the board, partly due to the uniqueness of each case and partly due to Dr. fees. Since extended, routine visits are usually required, it isn't particularly well-suited to "medical toruism" - though it is offered under that umbrella in several C.A. countries. While I have no Nicaragua experience with braces, that price quote must be from the best overpriced Dr around, for some invisline service/device, or is just way off the mark. That exceeds Costa Rica costs, even from many places known to cater to foreigners. The costs for basic work in Honduras ranges from $200-1200, with the high-end being for very serious, extended work - cases that almost always include the removal of several teeth or obstructions. A common price is L6000-9000 ($315-475), with monthly payments across 1-2 years, or whatever the treatment calendar is.

Don't have the data with me
but get quotes from at least 2 dentists because we have had bids vary by 100% between 2 dentists here in Esteli.
Generally, I have found dental costs from first-rate dentists to be about 20% of US costs, but if you haven't seen US costs lately it can be a shocker.
For example, mi insurer paid $800 for a no-problem root canal in the US. my bid here was usd100. I paid 50 bucks for a crown here, don't know the price up north but they are 500 and up .

my brother and i had it. both of us had braces. he had 2 molars removed, 1 rear upper on each side and then braces. that might be a good start, and then follow up here in the states.
miles to go before i am down there permanently....
