Matagalpa is in the mountains in North-Central Nicaragua. Most of the department and most of the population is east of the Pan American highway, the city of Matagalpa being the biggest population center in the north. If you are heading north on the PanAm, take to right fork in Sebaco to head into the heart of Magatagalpa and to continue up into Jinotega. |

The tour center downtown had some good info and the woman in charge was very helpful. Don´t have any info on the Spanish school.

44km from Estelí to Sebaco and maybe 25km from Sebaco to Matagalpa.
The road is severely potholed,
so it will slow you down some. Really be careful if it is raining, but other than that it is a straight shot.
