Resort in Nicaragua

0

I was just in a bar/restaurant in upstste NY. The person I am sitting next to knows that I have been to Nicaragua on more than one occasion. He informs me that a person whom we both is recently involved in a new resort in Nica, mostly doctors, that requires being helicoptered in to the property. Does anyone have knowledge of the such an opportunity?

Guacalito

Possibly

A development by the Pellas Group named Guacalito. If it involves being helicoptered in, this must be the place. They also have a place that I belive goes by the name of Los Brasiles south of SJDS. Guacalito is near Gigante in Tola. Almost between Iguana and Arenas.

guacalito

Is the same Pellas of Sugar State ? Yes it is , Carlos Pellas is the man.

Here is the site of the company development ?

A project that will include 107 houses, apartments, a boutique hotel, golf course, marina and a spa will be built by Grupo Pellas in Tola, Rivas. Called "Marina de Guacalito," it will supposedly be the premier luxury resort in Nicaragua, and compete with similar resorts in the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

Grupo Pellas has a bank loan of U$9 million for feasibility studies and design.

They say it will be a driver of tourism for Nicaragua the way Cancun is for Mexico.

To make it happen, they say they need the government to build the coastal highway. Hint hint.

Carlos Pellas answers Forbes' questions

The interview is here:

http://www.forbes.com/2009/10/20/grupo-pellas-nicaragua-business-chamorr...

To quote a couple bits:

"Pellas is the controlling shareholder of Grupo Pellas, a conglomerate involved in banking, sugar, rum, ethanol, media, insurance, citrus, health care, auto dealerships and high-end tourism that employs 25,000 people. ... The Pellases have rebounded in Nicaragua, the second-poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. " How fortunate for them!

And Pellas adds, "We have been very socially conscious."

By 'society' is he referring to his chums? I am unaware of any humanitarian efforts done by the family, that are not for-profit first.

He said that, with the global economic downturn, construction on the resorts has ceased. Still one must admire the 'high-end' touch of helicoptering over those unsightful poor people to get to your tropical paradise vacation spot.

I fail to the reason for being critical of the Pellas family

This family has done more for the socially disadvantaged in this country than any other family or organization. When compared on even scale, I wonder how your “good deeds” would measure up to theirs.

Of course they are “ for-profit first”! Are you? Why measure people with solid financial holdings by different standards? Should we not look at their good deeds first? All this sarcasm and criticism of one of the most generous person in the country does not become you. The Pellas organization distributes untold sums of money every year. They do it quietly and they do it without fanfare.

They certainly have my respect. They have my respect for their good deeds, and they have it for their skill in business.

very well put John

Ditto !!

Ditto again

Just because people have big money doesn't make them bad people...or at least not any worse than the rest of us. Of course, they may be, but not just on principle.ZZT
