San Nicolas along with Achuapa and El Sauce and probably other municipalities nearby were all first part of Las Segovias o Segovia. Logistically and economically all of those municipalities are better off being part of Esteli. That can also be said of Jinotegan municipalities such as Yali, etc.

San Nicolas first belong to Leon, but for administration reasons y population petitions was passed to Esteli,
