¡Ese negrito que no sabe nada de nada!

"Meet Enrique Ortez, the man given the job of Chancellor of Honduras (basically foreign minister) by the usurper Micheletti. In an interview on Honduras TV last night he said the above about President Obama and a whole lot more. Here's a translation of this report in the El Salvador daily, LaPagina:

Following the Coup D'Etat over José Manuel Zelaya, the de facto government led by Roberto Micheletti has named its new government team, among them the new Chancellor Enrique Ortez Colindres, who in his declarations has made the position of the coupmongers clear.

According to the Argentine newspaper El Clarín, the new "chancellor" Enrique Ortez took part in a journalistic TV program in Honduras where he was asked about the international reactions to the coup d'etat. Ortez said that he gave no importane whatsoever to the OAS and "the other little groups out there", he said (Spanish premier) José Luis Rodrígues Zapatero should "go back to his shoes*" and said that he was not going to talk about (Honduras neighbour) El Salvador "because it's not worth talking about such a small country, where you can't even play football because the ball lands in another country".

But he went for more by defining President Barack Obama of The United States as "that little black man who doesn't know anything".

Keep apologizing for your coupmongers, wingnuts. Cos by gawd, every day there's more to apologize for..

UPDATE: I've had a couple of mails from people about what this Ortez scumbag actually said about Obama, so here goes with a bit more. His precise words in Spanish were "Ese negrito que no sabe nada de nada". I decided to translate this as "that little black man who knows nothing" or "that little black man who doesn't know anything" to stay away from the controversial side of the statement and be as bland as possible. In fact the use of the word "negrito", i.e. the diminuitive of "negro", is very derogatory in nature and overtly racist in context; the kind of racism that would force the resignation of any public figure in the USA (for example). One mailer offered up the translation of "that know-nothing black boy" to get the proper feeling of the message implied by Ortez, and although it's extremely difficult to hit the translatory nail on the head in this case, I'd tend to agree that the offered translation captures the sentiment better than my deliberately bland version. Another way of catching the drift would be "That blackie that knows nothing about anything", or even "That negro...." would work, even the other "N" word would be a fair translation of what he meant.

The bottom line is that Ortez's statement, alongside the equally offensive words he has for Zapatero and the nation of El Salvador (note Revolter's comment below and Google up about the "football war" if you haven't heard about it previously) is dripping with bigotry and hatred."

Negrito in different places..

In the US is a problem whatever is related to interpretation of discrimination against black people, but that is because the history of violations of the rigths of this people in that country...

In other countries the mean of such things or expressions are quite different, in must of latin countries we don't have such problems.., our discriminations are must of time based on social origin or economic levels.

So i don't see the big deal..

Resignation, 7/13

Following the Friday resignation of Enrique Ortez Colindres (due to the above), "President" Micheletti swore in Carlos Lopez Contreras as the new chancellor of Honduras; Lopez is the lead negotiator for the coup government, in meetings with Zelaya and C.R. President Oscar Arias.

Youtube...

You can watch Ortez' remarkable (though slightly different) statement already on youtube

"Ellos permiten lo que sea. Ya Estados Unidos no es el defensor de la democracia. En primer lugar el presidente de la república, que lo respeto, el negrito, no conoce dónde queda Tegucigalpa. Nosotros somos los que conocemos dónde está Washington y somos los obligados como país pequeño, un pigmeo democrático, a aclararles las concepciones y a leerle, tal vez en su idioma, lo que está pasando"

Obama quote

I missed the broadcast (are you sure this was last night?). I cannot verify this but offer it anyway since it comes from a political opponent of the speaker: Though really not much of an improvement, the actual question and answer are given below, per translations from a Honduran National University professor who is no friend of Ortez and is supposed to have the full video clip online somewhere: (1) Frente a Freente question: Do you think the "gringos", as you call them, would permit an invasion of Honduras, promoted by Chavez? (2) Answer: They permit anything. The United States is no longer a defender of democracy. In the first place, the president of this Republic, and with all due respect to the little black man, doesn’t know where Tegucigalpa is at. We’re the ones who know where Washington is at and we’re the ones who are obliged, as a small country, a democratic pygmy, to clarify the concepts for him and read to him, maybe in his language, what’s really going on here.

Defending democracy?

Let's call a spade a spade. We do it at home, but abroad it is business interests and 'national security,'and every once in a while democracy accidentally gets in the way and gets defended. It is the wrapper but not the product.

"if you see someone who has lost their smile, give them one of yours"

Honduras

Get off your high-horse

[Ñegrito[ is not racist in Spanish and is not necessarily even insulting.

And his comments were right-on--the Great Obama is a nothing from nowhere who slipped into office in the backlash from the disasterous Bush 2 administration.

He{s snuggling up to the Chavistas when he should be supporting democracy.

¨Pata de Perro¨

N-word

It is true that it is not inherently racist or insulting (I can't count the number of times a family member answers or ends a phone call from a relative with the ever-popular "Hola Negro!...", "...y Adios Negra" or makes some goo-go sound entertaining a baby with the adopted moniker, "...mi Negrito", etc.). It is not connected to the n-word in common usage. Ortez, while be wordy, witty, and really insulting per the Spanish Premier (the shoes comment only makes sense it you are familiar with the old cobbler insult), succeeded in only be pathetically insulting per the Obama comment. He did a remarkably bad job for someone who is supposed to exhibit diplomatic skills (a corpse could have done a better job). What he was trying or supposed to do was emphasize that Honduras is defending democracy without the support of the so-called democratic leader of the free world - whose leader has lost the long-honored language of freedom; he was supposed to belittle the current role of the U.S. not the race, size, and intelligence of their new President. Zelaya supporters could not have scripted a bigger failure than Ortez, though few news sources picked up the story. This is the sort of comment, if done 100x better and in another context, that comes from a political commentator or professor not from an appointed official speaking on camera. The defiant aspect of the comment rang true in much of Honduras though as the commentary from Presidents of other countries has lost mileage; there is little or no concern or toleration for orders and instructions from the outside. There might not be a Latin equivalent of the Gadsden Flag ("Don't Tread on Me"), but if there was and it was recognized you would see a lot of them in Honduras right now. This is not to say this is a good thing, only that it is here and the initial mass celebratory attitude is slowly being replaced with something uglier.

I totally agree! Negrito is not a racist term

It simply describes a physical characteristic as does gordo or chele. I am being called chele all the time by my Nicaraguan friends. They refer to others as negro or the children as negrito.

Let's get of this social correctness horse and help pull the wagon.

el negrito

BILLY BOB YOU ARE RIGHT IT IS NOT INSLTING OR RACIST. I VOTE FOR MY PRESIDENT TO ME IT WAS A WAY OF GETTING RID OF RACIST PIGS IN WASHINGTON. BUT YES MY PRESIDENTE DOSE NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING. HE HAS NO CLUE OF WHO CHAVEZ IS AND WHAT LEFTISTS ARE ALL ABOUT MAYBE NEXT WEEK HE WILL HAVE TEA WITH THE CASTRO BROTHERS.MUCH TO MY DISAPPOINTMENT.

while I don´t think it was ¨racist

it was definetly bad politics to use a casual term against a foreign head of state in such a powerful position.

But keep in mind that Honduras is fighting for it sovereinty and freedom, and tempers tend to run high.

The sad part is that Obama does know what he is doing--he´s just wrong and has a bad Sec. of State, to boot.

i agree

he's wrong and will awake the sleeping giant....

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -Thomas Jefferson-

that might have been true

back in WW2 when the USA still had its industrial base but nowadays with most of our industrial and manufacturing power now offshore in places like China, it's rather doubtful if you do wake the giant he will be able to do much to defend himself. Hell, it's more than 8 years after 911 and we still haven't even caught that bastard Osama. And we shouldn't forget the significance of a Chinese sub surfacing right next to our aircraft "Kitty Hawk" a couple years ago or the Chinese shooting down satellites a year ago-my worry is which "sleeping giant" will wake first.

my fault

i was hoping owe'bama would wake the sleeping giant, the working american who pays the freight and realize socialism doesn't work....but the bread and circus crowd may have grown so large they'll allow the national socialist to swamp the boat... bush the liberal 2nd has drilled a few holes in the boat...

you crack me up Che :-)

ain't working Americans becoming a minority after 8 years of Republican nut bars? The National Socialists like the NRA and the AMA, and fundamentalist Christian alliance keep on haranguing the great unwashed( the "bread and circus crowd" ) as you call them- you're right about the boat gettin swamped. There are many countries around the world that would love to see America fight itself. And that could happen quick-maybe immediately -depending on the magnitude of the event or events that could unhinge the country. America is more fractured now than it has been in a long time. Me-I'm a advocate of national unity and racial harmony. And, I'm for getting back to producing as a nation.

sorry once again

i did a poor job again of explaining. to awake a sleeping giant doesn't mean that they go to war. bush #1 and 2 were liberals (and the country club set,) not a good union man like reagan. the reagan revolution brought the historical level of unemployment down. the liberalism is taking it up to european levels. and i am from the great unwashed, my mom's side of the family came over from ireland with the potato famine and discriminated against for years. the bread and circus crowd are those that have been lead to believe by the invidious discrimination of lowered expectations that they cannot amount to anything. i'd like them to awake also... i suspect i have not explained myself again. look forward to seeing you in nica!

Who is Chavez?

For anyone who wants a real answer, I recommend reading Chavez: Venezuela and the New Latin America reviewed here. It does an excellent job of showing where he came from and what he is trying to do for Venezuela.

If you just don't like his personality or approach don't bother reading this book. It doesn't address that.

I'd like to have tea with the Castro Bros

I'd bring the arsenic and/or potassium cyanide

bush

bush was a U.N. loving, opposed to local control (see no child left behind,) nation building (see iraq,) big government liberal. yes, a disaster. owe'bama is a socialist/communist time bomb who opposes freedom and loves national socialism. that's why he bows to the saudi king, wants iran to have nukes and loves chavez.

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -Thomas Jefferson-

sorry, Brother Che

that's just a pile of hooey with the exception of Bush being a disaster. You still just pissed cause the Republicans lost-with the exception of Mccain and Ron Paul, none of them were really Presidential material. I mean can you really see Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney as President. God help us! But -that's why it is called a democracy- I'm just glad that the days of the Presidency and other high offices being the purview of just old white men is over. It was high time.

rino

i don't care when rino's lose. the last time conservatism was on the ballot was '84 and '94. think about it. in 2000 the choice was between liberal and more liberal. palin may be a conservative, but when you are called up to the majors, you better be ready. she wasn't ready for the owe'bama sycophantic media. it's a shame newt is gifted but has baggage. i can easily see mitt making it, he's a good looking country club republican....not my type of conservative...i like a good union man, like reagan..

Who

Who is Chavez? I would appreciate a well thought out, and factually accurate answer. Not here to defend the guy. I am just trying to understand the reasons... anyone?

Just look up the word "caudillo" migs

read the wikipedia entry and you will see exactly who Hugo Chavez is. He's the guy Simon de Bolivar, the Liberator of Andean South America warned against in his last address from his deathbed in Santa Marta, Columbia. He said if the Latinos didn't get it together that these type of leaders would keep Latin America down forever-and so they have.
