Canada Continues to Work With Nicaragua

Canadian Minister of State for Foreign Relations, Peter Kent was just in Nicaragua. He has confirmed that Canada will continue to support Nicaragua and the Nicaraguan people. From the article in Prensa Latina
We, said Kent, maintain our commitment to work with the government of Nicaragua and the rest of the donor countries to support the country and guarantee a better future for Nicaraguans.
I think the end of the sentence is the important part. We all too often forget that final goal is to help people.

BUT

will Nic work with Canada?

Promipac, a Swiss aid project with many years of experience working as advisors to small farmers in Nortern Nic., has not had its contract renewed for 2009. No reason was given, the Swiss signed thier docs and both the Hondurans and Nicaraguans ignored them.

Local employees in Esteli, some of them with 12 years on the job, were given their severance pay in December, and told to have a nice holiday. In January they returned to work with no contract and therefor no budget. Should get real interesting around pay day.

Nicargua is poor for a reason
