My reference to other countries was only to illustrate that it is a tradition that it is celebrated in many parts of the world, Leon, Nicaragua being of them. Not sure if it is celebrated in Managua as I'm not from there. You have to remember that Leon is one of the original two cities (the other one being Granada)built by the Spaniards and is very rich in traditions.
are a catholic tradition and to my knowledge are celebrated in countries such as Mexico,Centro America & Espana, etc. "Estas fiestas recuerdan el peregrinaje de María y José desde su salida de Nazaret hasta Belén donde buscan un lugar donde alojarse para esperar el nacimiento del niño Jesús". I have confirmed this with a co-worker who is from Espana. Purisimas are unique to Nicaragua. As I'm sure you are aware in Leon, we have La Griteria Pequena which we celebrate in August and the one that is celebrated on Dec. 7th nationwide.
One of my favorite memories as a child growing up in Leon was going to "El Atrio" which is shown in the picture above and walk up and down "El Atrio" where all the vendors gather to sell their toys, food, etc. Another great tradition during "Navidad" is "Las Posadas" which go on for many days starting in early December and culminating in Navidad. OF course, I cant leave out "La Misa Del Gallo" which takes place en La Catedral at 12PM! Most Leoneses eat their "Gallina Rellena" and then attend church religiously! Oh look another russian car (i.e Lada) except the one in the pic is the all purporse vehicle "Niva". Good durable compact suv. Thanks a lot for the pics.
