The Politics of Politics

The Politics of Politics

I was just sent this cartoon on a mailing list. It is sad but true. While it is about U.S. politics, it made me think about Nicaraguan politics and think maybe it is just a good current example of all politics.

The MRS has been "the other Sandinista party" for years. They have talked so much about El Pacto that links Aleman's PLC with Ortega's FSLN. Then they shifted gears and decided to support PLC candidates if they were the most likely to cause an FSLN candidate to lose.

If anything, this seems to be a general characteristic of a government where politicians have to run for re-election—something that requires them to favor short-term fixes over actually addressing whole problems. Any benevolent dictators out there? :-)

this is so funny! on so many levels!

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -Thomas Jefferson-

The election day is over,

The election day is over,

The talking is done.

My party lost, your party won.

So let us be friends,

Let arguments pass.

I'll hug my elephant,

You kiss your ass.

Those elephants...

they will mess with your head.
