working very well.....34 meters of coiled 3/4 ' black hose on wooden cross, couple of connectors and a shower. 15-20 minutes of sun exposure will render about 20 liters of hot water(ass burning quality). Sunny area with air temperature not exceeding 76F on altitude of 2100 m. above sea level.Questions?

bravo Fyl way to go....
I built it in 2008 and it still works....no gymics
Need 2 tanks
For all of you that are thinking about hot water it will be a good idea to install 2 tanks. up high or on top of the roof for hot water for those cool water morning when you need to get up early and another tank for the afternoon or nite shower after a long hot day. using the same principle of using a shower/tub diverter. one side of the diverter for hot water connected to the tank above the house and the other side (cold) to the regular water storage tank. this way you can choose eather hot or cold or mix both to get the right temp.
Good luck. if anybody need a diagram or help doing this set up please dont hesitate to ask.

Had the same idea.....
Was going to make a grid of the same pipe over a section of my roof. Had thought of draining it into a black 50gallon plastic drum(still evevated) and refill as needed. Thanks for the cool pic.
air temperature
"air temperature not exceeding 76F" (about 24 celsius). many locations will exceed this in Nicaragua. why this limitation? any work-around?
Simple solar water heater
I just put a small black tank on the roof for hot water, stays pretty hot all evening. So when its time to shower at nite, I dont use my noramal system but the gavity one on the roof. If pretty nice, but this is much cheaper

Limitations
Not sure about limitations on temps or altitude (probably something to do with pressure in the hose), but my question would be, why would anyone want a hot shower if it's 76 degrees out? Pura Nica, Bobby
Very cool
Thanks for the idea. I now know what my next project is.
ass burning
Be careful man, burned ass and chicken buses don't go well together.
ok
as per our last phone conversation i am planning to visit your farm around middle of December. will drive my chicken bus all the way to amayito. my first project will be to implement my hot water system there.....so it will boooooost your performance.
So, Jan
You want it to be 2 burned asses now ?? well I better bring out those " suave" hammocks now !!!! Welcome brother.
15-20 minutes of sun exposure
How big is your storage tank, or does the water in the tubes alone hold this much hot water?

i was thinking about a
i was thinking about a storage tank ....but for the time being it serves the purpose without it. it is situated on the the terrace where i spend lots of my time and only my physiology forces me to use the bathroom downstairs
Just the tube
That's about 1.5 cubic feet of water or about 12 gallons. That should do.
actually
its a little bit less but sufficient
simple but effective
Thanks for the photo. Maybe a silly question, how do you replenish the water? I assume it's a gravity-fed shower, just wondering what type of water..rain..or otherwise, and how/where do you get it.
well
water comes from city water system...dirty cheap....just connected it all to the tap on my roof
