U.S. in Deep Caca is God's PunishmentSubmitted by fyl on 10 October, 2008 - 20:58.
I just read in a Reuters article that President Ortega said that the current U.S. economic crisis is God punishing the U.S. for imposing its economic policies on the poor. Now, personally, I don't think God was involved—I feel the U.S. government is fully capable of screwing things up for the average citizen without divine intervention. Unfortunately, the article had a lot of filler. So, here is the original article followed by a properly edited version.
MANAGUA (Reuters) - Nicaragua's leftist President Daniel Ortega, a U.S. foe since the Cold War, said God was punishing the United States with the financial crisis for trying to impose its economic principles on poor countries. Re-edited version follows: MANAGUA (Reuters and NicaLiving) - Nicaragua's President Daniel Ortega said God was punishing the United States with the financial crisis for trying to impose its economic principles on poor countries. "It's incredible that in the most powerful country in the world, which spends billions of dollars on brutal wars ... people do not have enough money to stay in their homes," President Ortega said in a speech late on Thursday. "God is punishing the United States," for imposing flawed economic policies on developing countries around the world, said President Ortega, who also governed Nicaragua in the 1980s when the U.S. government was conducting an illegal war against Nicaragua. His party lost the 1990 election for president against a U.S.-government created coalition but Ortega was re-elected president in 2006. Since then he has spoken out against U.S. "tyranny" in Latin America and irked Washington by allying himself with Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. Many Latin American countries were victimized by pro-market economic policies promoted by Washington in the 1990s which did little to reduce poverty. Today, most of those countries are seeking an alternative to U.S.-backed "neo-con" approaches. Ortega said the current crisis would hit remittance flows to Nicaragua, as immigrants sending money home to relatives lose their jobs in the United States due to the slowdown. Nicaraguans abroad send home between $800 million and $1 billion dollars (472 million and 590 million pounds) a year, according to the country's central bank, the majority of which come from the United States. Rescue
Just when one might think it impossible to find any political leader on the planet who might make "W" look smart... someone comes along to the rescue...
It isn't god's punishment
It isn't god's punishment, (if there's a god) Its the Laffer curve and Reaganomics that are finally crashing down on the american people.

We need a change
I think you’re on to something there, Al. Maybe it’s karma. Here's a novel idea, how about increasing taxes on the very rich and decreasing taxes on the middle class? When people amass more money than they can possible spend, it is all about the power to get more. Milton Friedman’s economics have wreaked havoc through out Latin America and the world for many years.
Novel Idea
Hola, M.C., Increasing taxes on the very rich and decreasing them or staying the same on the middle class, has always been proposed by politicians. This time is Sen. Obama turn to propose it.
The exploitation of Latin America by the U.S., goes beyond and way before Milton Friedman's monetary policies.
Thanks,
Al
how about
how about some ownership? have you ever washed a rental car? no! the people that don't pay taxes don't take care of the country because they have no ownership, no skin in the game. i believe they are called the entitlement crowd. i find the entitlement crowd for the most part to be very unhappy people. and likewise the people that treat the entitlement crowd paternalistically aren't very happy either. i find hardworking people to be the happiest. (btw i have let a homeless man live at my father's business for at least 10 years, but i didn't take him to raise. i did see that he got some shelter during the 2 hurricanes during that time frame.)
your novel idea is not that novel. you appear to want someone else to pull your weight? this class envy argument is getting tiresome...
btw, what is a monocongo? a howler monkey?

class envy ?
I believe everyone should pay their fair share of taxes to pay for that which they receive benefit. The entitlement crowd that you refer to, in my opinion are those that pay very little compared to what they rake in. Why should Warren Buffett pay a lower tax rate than his Secretary. I believe we should all pull our own weight and if we can give that homeless man a place to stay… Good for you. I don’t see what this “class envy” thing is that you mention, but if my opinion tires you out, maybe you should take a nap.
the power
the power to tax is the power to destroy. warren buffet is paying on capital gains. that is different from earned income. i don't think the usa wants to punish savers. people who save provide capital for other businesses. the usa has a problem with its citizens saving money. but, if you are not a saver, i guess i can't explain that to you. it's probably similar to why 401k's aren't taxed til you pull it out. social security is a state sponsored ponzy scheme.

It's a little bit bigger than taxes

from the Buffet Article
Mr Buffett, who runs the investment group Berkshire Hathaway and is widely regarded as the world’s most successful investor, said that he was a Democrat because Republicans are more likely to think: “I’m making $80 million a year – God must have intended me to have a lower tax rate.”

I've heard it mentioned . . .
I've heard it mentioned . . . that WB would be considered for Treasury Secretary. Hell, I wish I could have WB watch my treasury but at a 113,000 a share for BRK-A that isn't going to happen. I could trust a guy who's giving his money away, instead of mine.
IF THAT IS THE CASE...
then surely the Castro family dictatorship is being punished by God by 2 back to back hurricanes.
Food is being rationed after crops were lost. 50 years of godless dictatorship is enough seems to be the divine message.
