Starting on December 29, a group of people will bike across Nicaragua to raise money for farmers who lost their livlehood in Hurricane Felix. The article includes a map showing a route from Puerto Cabezas to somewhere on the Pacific west of Managua. A trip that most of us have never made even in our 4x4.
The goal for Sea to Sea: Cycling Across Nicaragua is more modest: to raise at least $30,000 to help farmers plant crops that were lost in the Category 5 hurricane. Each of the riders—some from Nicaragua, some expatriates, and others from North America—are being asked to raise $1,000. The Canadian government has promised to donate $4 for every $1 raised. The total donation could reach $100,000.
