Electricity

0

We have been getting hammered with our electric bill - Almost $600 last month. I don't know the exact breakdown but just guessing that 75% of our cost comes in the last 25% of usage as the cost per KW hour goes up the more you use. We have two separate buildings on the property and one of the guys suggested we add a second meter. I think this will cut our bill in half even though our overall usage will remain the same. I'll update the results when we get our first full months bill with the second meter. Cost of adding the 2nd meter is about $500 that includes parts (about $400) and the labor (about $100). -pc

PLease forgive me

Are you talking in Dollars or that other language, Cordobas? 1st Capt. Ron (Title by Miskito Alan)

I feel your pain.

For years I have been aggravated over my electric bills in this country. What many don't understand is much of how you are charged, depends on where you live. The more "affluent" areas have higher bills than other areas considered rural or "poor".

There is no rhyme or reason other than the company figuring those who make more, can pay more.

Very different from those of us used to all users being charged the same rate.

My bill is around US$250 a month. That's running only ONE window air conditioner, only at night during the hot months. That cost never seems to change even during the blackout periods when we have no electric for six to eight hours a day...or during the no blackout times at all.

All I can say is..."welcome to Nicaragua" to those who think utility costs are figured the same as they are in first world countries.

Cost per kwh

Just curious how much you are charged per kwh in Nicaragua, and what the baseline is. The amount of kwh where the price starts to escalate. Here it is .11559 cents per kwh and the baseline is 321.9 kwh.

Good idea to put a second meter downstream from the main meter. Take the kwh usage from the second meter and multiply it by the coast per kwh and bill the tenant.

$ per KWH

The 1st 25 KWh are C$1.56 --- 2nd 25 KWh C$3.37 --- Next 50 KWh C$ 3.53 --- Next 50 KWh C$4.66 --- Next 106 KWh C$4.35 --- Next 244 KWh C$4.59 --- Next 500 Kwh C$7.29 --- Next 363 KWh C$8.17 --- They really stick it to you the last two levels.

Dual Accounts

I have seen some do this when they can among other creative ways to keep the bills down. Bring down your own GE meters from USA ($85.00) to at least see that you are not being ripped off by UF.

Connect in tandem to monitor your usage. Anyone running a hotel should look into better metering technologies that allow monitoring from a web browser individual room usage and more. Prices will keep climbing as the philosophy I believe is to make the businesses pay for the increasing number that continue to steal every month. Current government chooses not to prosecute. Suprised they have not found some gringo to make an example of in this regard. No paranoia here but it is easy to see that from top down doing business in Nicaragua has become increasingly difficult over the last year and a half.
