Hints From Heloise...Nica Style

Submitted by tacomasteve on 18 September, 2008 - 20:12.

Okay, so enough of trying to solve the world's cultural and economic ills....Here are three more immediate issues...

1. The slugs are eating my shade garden down to twigs. I have tried the beer trick but these must be 12 step slugs..Any suggestions?

2. The tap water leaves crusty white film or spots on everything from plastic dinner ware to the ginebra leaves...Any solutions?

3. Anyone know a home made Desiccant recipe? It's late in the rainy season and here comes the mold...

Bonus Question... What are these giant 4-6' long grasshopper like critters that have recently popped up?,

Thanks in advance

Slugs

Slugs, Try lemon, salt and Tabasco sauce, then eat them.....Just like raw oysters.

Grass hoppers "Capachos"(mini helicopters) and giant flying cockroaches are used by the locals as means of transportation.

Al

I'd rather feed the slugs

to a frog and then eat the frog....:-)

These GIANT Grasshoppers

snack on Katydids...The cats catch them outside and by the time I see the critters there isn't much left...Here's a good pic of one giant grasshopper like these from CR...

Sounds

like you need bigger cats!

move

to Esteli. better weather, no slugs, no perverts..well there is one I know,no competition for peanut butter, good supply of fresh cashews (Liar). nicer class of people, including me at years end. Not too far from La Dalia where the travelling Hippies are going to live. There you go. did I mention fewer blackouts and colder cheaper beer.

Better economic future

CoolTop would probably sell Gringo-made nut butters. :-)

if it's a mineral...

film, vinegar may do the trick or other mild acids

vinegre doesn't seem strong enough

and mild acid? I gave that up years ago...

so was that you...

I saw licking the frogs ?

wise to stay away from the brown acid , stick with microdot or window pane, sometimes the orange sunshine, preferably Owlsley's, was pretty good. ;)

but back to the 'accepted' reality;

phosphoric (if stronger dilution) or muriatic (used in swimming pools to adjust pH) we used it to eat the concrete away (lime based) for exposed aggregate finishes on slabs, back when I was a tool of the capitalist Yankee running dog imperialists.

rice...

will pull in moisture, it keeps my salt from caking.

Slugs

A border of ash works well. When they try to cross it, it turns their slime into paste and they stop moving.

I'll give that a try...

I mixed coffee grounds, salt and chile powder to protect the potted plants...The slugs took out 50 wandering jew cuttings overnite?!
