Artwork, Primarily Paintings

Submitted by randude101 on 23 August, 2008 - 08:27.

I am interested in seeing the regional artwork with the mind of a commercial payoff. With that out of the way read on.

I have found that the paintings in places, hopefully by the locals, are one of the things that fill in the blanks for mankind. Sure, the writing of Americans that write from there help, but paintings with local materials, from a local's point of view brings ones conscientiousness of the area more complete.

I am looking to hoop-up with artist in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belize, pretty much any and all of tropical Latin and other central American people.

1. Paintings 2. Photography 3. Wooden Artifacts 4. Stone 5. Ceramics

1. Paintings, to me are the most expressive. I would love to see a photo of Anyone's Work. I dream of tropical Greens with appearances of vibrant colors of parrots, people, old people, and ladies. Things that 'Fill In The Blanks'. By no means is color necessary though, I am just using that as an example.

2. Photography would be of a high art standard as well. No picture perfect photos of a lake and trees. I would like to see more of a humanity or feelings kind of work. Close ups of peeling paint, someone smoking a cigarette, a person sleeping on a front porch rocking chair.

3. Wood carving. Nothing too cheap or unoriginal. If you have great looking wood grains or other natural occurring tree deformations show me a photo.

4,&5. Show me a photo. Nothing too heavy or unoriginal.

How are you going to be paid? I have not worked that out completely, but it will be through commission sales though. I will have you inside places in the USA that you would never have access to otherwise. I have markets in Seattle primarily, but further connections all over the country. This is not going to make anyone instantly rich, but it is a good way of spreading more understanding through the world, a way to preserve a possibly vanishing culture, and by supporting local artist you instill pride and a self supporting way of life. And be honest, the folks of an emerging culture have traditionally been the most creative in all of history.

I am legitimate, educated and travelled. I will not invite you or help anyone ever scam you or anyone or myself in a business arrangement. You are in completely safe hands with me as a friend. PM me for the email exchange.

I come back again on artwork

Okay So now I have a parter that is going to be living in the Granada area, right in town I think. His coverage is very international so visiting Leon will be a regular visit. Please contact me with good artwork that is marketable in the US. Maybe we will look at Europe someday, but for now US. This is for real, as is everything I do, and this would be good for anyone that wants to get in early.

Tacoma Steve, you once hooked me up with really good artist. He is elderly. My wife had reformatted my laptop and the DVD we used to back everything up was never properly written. I would love to get back on that subject.

On a personal level I am going thru a divorce and I went a little crazy with the freedom for a good month. I am over the shock now and ready to go all in.

Mono has connected with me too. I bet this is going to be fun. We are a fun bunch that likes to have fun making money Randy

Nica painters

There are a few painters in Leon I can hook you up with. I am a California landscape painter and spend half the year in Nicaragua. From your post, sounds like my stuff would not interest you, but I would like to see my Nica friends get exposure outside Nicaragua. I’ll PM you.

I have an friend who has been trying to help out a couple of young painters here in Granada. He could certainly use some help in the marketing dept. Pictures of some of the art is in his picture section... Here's his page http://www.myspace.com/grannica PM me with questions he is over 70 and is a little challenged online... As to other media, the ceramics are first rate, I have never seen Nica art photography (you need a camera to make it)and most of the carvings I have seen are small and utilitarian in nature.. Except for the wickedly good fake pre colombian sculptures around Ometepe

Two Great Respones

You guys make this sound like it is very doable and fun. Of course there may be some early trust/risk issues, this will be a great venture for all parties concerned.

Anyone have photos or other connections of any of that pre-colombo carving please step right up too.

My creative outlet has always been sort of an abstract nature photography. Usually trying to play with the technical behaviours of film in low lighting. I will upload without doubt, but I just started on this site.

I am an electrical design engineer and a pretty good one. I had always thought that opening an engineering company would be fun, I had Costa Rica in mind and made some contacts there and people to do the work. The one thing that kept me from doing is the amount of overhead that would be required, another is selling Costa Rican engineering to American and other Companies. Then there is my new wife, Sharon. She has implied in no uncertain terms that she will put roots in "non-America" soil. It seems to me the more I look, Costa Rica is the California if Central America, and perhaps not a great choice. However, I am seeing Nicaragua here. A developing country. And the developing part, that is so much the best thing to have expressed in art. Happiness despite the world in a beautiful tropical paradise. I am poor, but I still stand out for who I am.

Suggestion

Go to Leon and spend a day at the art gallery and museum owned by the Fundacion Ortiz Gurdian. It consists of two restored buildings in the colonial center of Leon with an impressive collection of Central American art. Many of the recognised contemporary artists in Nicaragua and Central America have their work in the gallery and the visit would serve as a solid basis for your future buying decisions.

Too put it bluntly there are a many copies of established Nicaraguan artists and junk available for sale and a visit to the gallery will save you a lot of headaches later.

Excellent idea! Here is their website. http://www.hotelelconvento.com.ni/english/centro_fotos.htm I've spent many hours here and had some very interesting conversations with the painting restorers in the back room.
