Paper or Plastic?Submitted by tacomasteve on 20 August, 2008 - 12:53.
![]() One thing I like alot in Nicaragua is the minimal packaging used for food and consumer products... I buy a plastic envelope of mustard or dish soap and use those to refill the plastic bottles I already have.. Makes sense to me .... And squeezing the beans out of that bag is a lot easier than scrapping out a can...In the USA I filled a 33 gal garbage can once a week and here I make about a grocery bag of trash a week. when glass bottles ruled
there was less waste. The soda manufacturers are the main producers of this plastic litter. Nobody throws away glass bottles they are too valuable.
But since glass is "too heavy" the plastic soda bottle litter has gotten out of control, and besides soda tastes better in glass bottles............
I also dont like those !@#%# plastic milk bags.......i spill almost half a bag trying to pour me a glass of milk.
and what they ...
leach out maybe harmful;

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate
But
recycling cans make it make more sense than tossing the plastic. A bit of homework will tell you how bad the plastic is in many ways. look along the roads here...the reason is no use for them so not picked up or recycled.ZZT
There is a use for them right here in Nicaragua
http://www.eppnicaragua.com/ Nicaragua needs to promote recycling but, within the context of Nicaragua's needs I think that budget may e a long way off. Even in the US the penetration of the concept of recycling is only skin deep. Littering isn't unique to Nicaragua but, it is sad given the commercial value of recycled plastic.
