Driving to nica

Submitted by Reinie on 18 August, 2008 - 17:54.

We will be driving down to Nica the middle of November leaving from western Canada and going down the West coast of Mexico. Is there any other adventurous souls doing the same trip possibly hook up and travel together for a bit this is not a speedy trip but one to look at the sites.

Driving to Nica

Hi Reinie

Would be very interested to hear how you got on as we are planning the same trip in early January 09. Driving from Ontario with our dog.

We are hoping to do the same

We are hoping to do the same from Edmonton with our 2 dogs. If you want email me and we can discuss it further. lonwat@telus.net

we are doing the same..

with three large dogs. We have to be there sooner, planning on leaving in a day or two, Lords of Paperwork willing and the creek don't rise.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate

Just be aware of your surrondings

Like anywhere else in the world, there are bad spots on the road traveled by tourist. The Mexicans have been hitting on the US tourist for years, so often that its hardly mentioned. If you add spring break to it, its terrible.

(To be fair to the Mexicans) Folks always prey on tourists ALL over the world, those who prey on others know where the best places are.

Nicaraguans heading for the so called promissed land from Guatemala are mugged, raped, arrested, its horrible. The mexican laws are very hard on folks entering Mexico without permission but when they (Mexicans) cross the US border they screem horror on the US border partol on what they do to them. Getting off the subject, JUST BE CAREFUL, Make it a point to enter Mexico early enough to get as far away from the border towns as possible and settle for the night in a larger city. Garage your vehicles and be on the look out for anything strange. Jorge Giraldez-Benard Latin American Advisors Company Ltd Texaco El Cortijo 1/2 C al Sur Casa 300 Res. Mexi Border Crossings

The crossing at Mexicali has never been a problem for me in 50 years I have been doing it. Go early and then scoot south, or in your case, east. There is a very nice new crossing about 8 miles east of town now that is prolly the way to go.

Let the Canadians have fun on their trip. Do be VERY careful, stay in good hotels and do not hang out in isolated areas as those Canadians Tags are going to be like beakens of lights flashing, MUG US!!!!!!!!Wish u guys would just take a Central American Cruise, it is so much safer...

HAVE PLENTY OF DOLLARS FOR MORDIDAS...

as the Mexicans and coimeros do not take American Express or Canadian Dollars either.

be wary of people with cuerno'e chivo though!

A uncle by mairrage also

A uncle by mairrage also from Nic. drove down about 6 years ago from Ontario. He got the shake-down twice in Mexico. As he had little cash on him they gladly took what ever he had in the back of the truck clothes, electronics things that he was to give to the family and friends.
