Did WWIII Already Start?Submitted by fyl on 15 August, 2008 - 20:47.
Yesterday, I was in the finca trying to use my GPS to take some altitude readings. A few meters of variation is normal but I was seeing big variations--up to 24 meters. Well, the current GPS satellites are up there for the U.S. military. (EU ones are on the agenda soon.) When the U.S. military wants to, it varies the information a bit for us mortals. The way it works is that the unencrypted data is fudged a bit but, with a magic key you can still get the more accurate info. That is so U.S. cruise missiles hit their target but "the other guy's" don't. The last time I saw this was when the U.S. was about to invade Iraq. Not being sure if it was just a bad day because of trees, weather or whatever, I mentioned it to a friend in the U.S. He confirmed that the same thing was happening to him. So, it seems real. Does this have anything to do with Nicaragua? Yes, another reason I am glad I live here.

Oh (Big) Brother
The USA is altering your GPS readings? When do you have time to sleep?
Plenty of lobster men out working yesterday & no reports of false readings & not even a single conspiracy theory.
Check your batteries, check the clouds, buy new glasses, something.
Just keeps getting more entertaining here, thinking about selling my TV.
Not War Just New Satellite
This link may help explain your problem. I am experiencing similar errors on my Megellan 320. I think there is a firmware upgrade.

No problems with mine
I am sure that what I use is nothing like yours but I had not problems today. I use the Garmin nuvi 760. I entered over 15 addresses today for home visits and all were accurate within 15 feet.
But like I said I am not looking at altitude measurements just addresses.
