Heartworm MedicationSubmitted by coulterica on 29 July, 2008 - 14:41.
Sitting in Houston airport right now on our way back to OZ after a much needed two week vacation with a question. We tried to purchase heartworm medication for our dogs but the vet would not sell it to us without checking them out. They of course are in Managua. We contacted a vet in Managua and she has no idea what heartworm is. I know that heartworm is a issue in all fifty states. Is it possible that it's not a problem in Nicaragua? ( categories: )

Heartworm meds
The vet that wouldn't sell you the meds was doing the right thing. If your dog does infact have heartworm and you medicate it with said medication it will kill the dog. My twin brother had a dog with heartworm and it lived to be 7.

No, it is a problem
Try Clinica Raymari in Managua. You can also buy it online from PETCARERX.com, which is what I do, but you do need a prescription from a vet.
In the US they
always insist on a blood test before beginning the medication. Dan Polley
The name of the most popular product is
Cardomec. It is available at almost any better Veterinary Pharmacy OTC. Or at Clinic Raymari as will305 suggested.
Blood tests are usually insisted upon if:
1.) The animal has a history of blood based illness. 2.) The vet has a history of gambling problems or other acute need of money.
