Culture In NicaraguaSubmitted by will305 on 24 July, 2008 - 21:57.
I have not read much lately on here about the cultural happenings and events in Nicaragua. Just bashing, real estate, politics, and general BS that is really not all that interesting or helpful. more.... Personally, I have attended and thoroughly enjoyed 3 different productions of the Ballet Folklorico Nicarguense en el Teatro Nacional Ruben Dario. The shows were so moving and so meaningful, it brought a tear to my eye and made me proud to be part of this beautiful country. By the way, there are some good videos of the ballet on youtube if you have never seen it. I have also attended, like many of you I am sure, different types of festivals, fiestas patronales, hipicas, and even cockfights, etc. but there is really not alot of talk about that kind of stuff on here. For me, it is an important part of being here and I would love to hear about other people's experiences and thoughts on this subject. Anyway, no one is writing anything else. Y no seas un burlesco! Frankly, Nica culture hasn't
Frankly, Nica culture hasn't changed much in the last couple of hundred years.
Lots of marimba music to be heard.
Lots of rum around to drink.
Lots of Classic Nica dances to see over and over again.
Lots of poetry readings of Rubin Dario to hear too.
There's the annual, sometimes twice a year, dance shows put on by Sra, Pellas at the Dario Theater in Managua which is fun. But more for parents than tourists.
I never thought much about cock fighting as "culture" but...maybe your definition of culture is different from others.
After a few years here, one hipica begins to look like any other. Especially with all the rum and beer around.
Does anyone not drink to excess in this country?
For some, songs from the 80's revolution and talk of "heroes" of the revolution are culture too! Sad to say that seems to make some people's blood boil so that part of "culture" is often avoided here to keep the peace.
How often does one need to see a Nica dance or here marimba music before one gets a little tired of it?
Just asking!
I guess that's why we have so many hammocks available!
Cultural Events
From reading the posts here I just assumed they had cancelled all of those types of things, I heard it had something to do with the "Evil Empire", can't confirm it, but from reading the posts here I have learned that the "Evil Empire" is responsible for everything wrong in the world, & now the bastards have stooped to this. Imperialistic pigs.
