married his first cousin?????

married his first cousin?????

The only problem with this is that ...

this pic couldn't have been taken in 1955 one year before his death, as he was shot in 1980. He was about to turn 55.

Tacho "Viejo"

This is Anastasio Somoza Garcia father of Tachito and yes it was taken in 1955 before he was murdered at a party in Leon by Rigoberto Lopez Perez. He was flown to Panama fatally injured where he died a couple of days later.

Yes, Tacho viejo

Actually, Rigoberto Lopez Perez fired 5 shots at Somoza with a 38 revolver. Hit him 4 times, 3 bullets remained lodged, NONE OF THE WOUNDS WERE FATAL. The two more serious were: one that perforated one lung, and the other lodging by the spine which caused pain.

As the Somoza family did not trust the best doctors in Nicaragua, 'cause they were not "Somocistas", they flew "Tacho" to Panama to be intervened by President Eisenhower's personal doctors.

You do not put a person totally under anesthesia for long with a perforated lung. You use only local anesthesia to extract the bullets one at the time. As rumors flew that the bullets were poisoned, the family pushed for total anesthesia and all the bullets be extracted at once. The operation, lasting 6 hours, was a success, but Somoza that was perfectly awake and joking, before the operation, never woke up from the anesthesia dying about a week later.

Rigoberto Lopez Perez started it, but it was Somoza's family stupidity and mistrust that finished him up.

I was 2 years old, living 4 blocks from were it happened. My father, a medical technologist, was picked up by a military jeep to go and provide Somoza with a blood transfusion before moving him.

Rigoberto Lopez Perez was knocked down by a rifle butt first, and on the floor, shot 52 times by Somoza's guards.

Thanks for your Sharing

some personal Family experience, I also thought your post read like..the basis of what could be a good novel of the period. I was intrigued by your summation of the Family's ignorence, I had always assumed that Central American and South American Dictator Families were rich and Smart. Why did they kill the Bugger?

Yes this is "Tachito" so is

Yes this is "Tachito" so is the son. What is written on back is wrong then which does happen from time to time...

One man's "Executioner" is another man's assassin

Why

did they shoot the bugger?

US Marines

created the military academy in Nicaragua, in the 1930's, and left him as director. Using this newly created "guardia nacional" as his personal army, he ordered Sandino assesinated, and then overthrew the then president Juan Bautista Sacasa, his uncle in law, becoming a dictator, and initiating a 40 years long Somoza dinasty. This was an early attempt at getting rid of the dictatorship.

Thankyou
