Food Helps Fight Drug War

While FOX isn't my typical news source, this article offers something to think about. Specifically, maybe higher food prices are a better way to fight the "war on drugs" than with military intervention.
But rising grain prices and food shortages have made [Evo Morales] reconsider. He's now asking coca farmers to supplement their crops with rice and corn as a way of holding down coca production while helping to feed South America's poorest country.

Maybe this will work. Of course, as long as cocaine users have what seems to be inifinitely much money to buy cocaine, it may just push up cocaine prices. That, of course, will push up anti-drug enforcement costs for all the countries on the route between cocaine producers and the U.S.

Increase in drug prices

I guess the "rock man" will now have to steal more plantain from me to support his habbit, Always nice to help the local economy.

Nice thoought

But...

Can grow coca where beans and corn and potatoes have a hard time.

Needs little "tending".

And even with $10 corn and beans it is still 10X more income.

i guess the pressure from the government can have some effect...but I am afraid it lack enough clout to balance what is on th other side of the equation. ATZ
