Corn Island & Little Corn IslandSubmitted by Miskito Alan on 23 June, 2005 - 15:47.
Diving and spear-gun fishing are done on most all parts of the "Atlantic Coast" of Nicaragua. I have friends that bring their own sophisticated diving equipment and sophisticated spear guns when visiting from the USA (America). The reefs are beautiful; the water is very clear; the beaches are wide, white, and sandy; and "Blowing Rock" is a fantastic sight. The best places to dive on the "Atlantic Beautiful Coast" are in Corn Island and Little Corn Island. Dive shops that rent diving equipment are located on both islands. Boats and guides are available at comparitively low rates. "Nautilus Eco Adventures" (link below) is on Big Corn Island. The two owners (Cherma & Regine) are personal friends of mine and are super people. Cherma (Guatemalan) has had diving businesses in Guatemala and Nicaragua for over 30 years. Regine (German) has had food and bar businesses in Guatemala and Nicaragua and is a great cook. The website contains beautiful pictures and rates and descriptions for all diving, snorkeling, and guided trips. http://www.divebigcorn.com/about.html The bigcornisland.com site (link below) is the best website for hotel information on Corn Island and be sure to check the photo section and secrets & tips section. This website is operated by Marlies Stoddard who lives in Corn Island and whose husband (Marl) operates a commercial trap finfishing business there and both are originally from Florida, USA (America). http://www.bigcornisland.com/hotels.html Another good friend of mine (Christian Zagrodnik) is a French/Canadian from Montreal who now lives in Corn Island. Chris will be opening a dive business on Corn Island very soon and he has many years of experience in the diving business. Chris will have the best dive boat on Corn Island and two containers of equipment are now on the way to Corn Island from Montreal and then Chris will be in business. bigcornisland@yahoo.ca The "Hotel Iguana" website (link below) has the best pictures and information for Little Corn Island. The hotel is owned by two friends of mine (Cathy & Grant Peeples) from Florida, USA (America). Fishing and diving is available through this hotel. "Hotel Delphenes" on the front beach in Little Corn Island is an upper scale accomodation. http://www.casaiguana.net/ A very nice diving report (link below) with very good pictures from a diver and his son from the USA (America) relates their stay in Little Corn Island. http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Shores/3199/Nicaragua.html Mark Halliday's report and beautiful pictures of Corn Island and Little Corn Island are on the below link. http://mrhalliday.com/2000/CornIslands/CornIslands.htm An amusing and useful map of Big Corn Island is available at http://www.bigcornisland.com/folleto_mapa.pdf |
