PetrocaribeSubmitted by fyl on 10 July, 2008 - 19:54.
I just saw an ACN news release saying the Petrocaribe summit will be held in Venezuela this coming weekend. Nicaragua, of course, is a member but the membership list surprised me. We hear about/complain about Nicaragua getting cheap oil and wondering where the leftover money goes but, based on the membership list, it seems like there is a lot more to know about.
Petrocaribe member countries are Venezuela, Cuba, Dominica, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, Antigua y Barbuda, Bahamas, Belize, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, Guyana, St. Vicente and the Grenadines, Jamaica, Surinam and Santa Lucia. ( categories: )

Follow The Money
If Nicaragua were to include the funds in the budget like Honduras and other member countries, maybe there would not be such a scandal. As long as the money is going into a black hole for the FSLN the 62% of the people who did not vote for this emerging dictatorship will be complaining. Theoretically it is a great idea, in practice the money is used to benefit a very limited part of the Nicaraguan society without any transparency. The number of countries has nothing to do with how the funds are administered here.
