Rope pumpsSubmitted by Mike on 6 July, 2008 - 12:14.
Has anyone seen rope pumps in operation in Nicaragua? Here's a link to the site promoting its use, http://www.ropepump.com/. The site says this technology has reached about 25% of rural Nicaraguans. Do any of you have any thoughts about the pros and cons of using this technology for small-scale irrigation?

Very common here
I have one on my old finca. Here is a photo of the pump.
Most are hand-crank (like this one) but there are some where the pump is operated by bicycle pedals.
Irrigiation
Thanks for the fast reply, much obliged.
Do you ever see them hooked up to a micro-irrigation system of some sort?
Rope pump
On their website look under the irrigation info & follow links, I have talked to them a few times about this, the pump I am interested in will use a small gasoline engine & would fill a tank to use for drip irrigation.
