Kitty in Granada needs a home!

We found a kitten that looks almost identical to the orange and white one in the pic. We guess he is about 4 weeks old. We'll be in Granada until mid August and will get his first round of shots for his new owner. If anyone knows of a good home for the little kitty- please let us know! we will be checking this post :)

dogs and cats

How do cats fare with so many loose dogs around? I would love to take both of them - if my hostel would allow... I'm really going to miss my little left-behind, black puma.

We have

now 4 (yes four) dogs and 2 cats. They are the best of friends. They cuddle and they look to each other for protection and comfort.

Cats & dogs

I understand that if they've grown up together.

But what about the street dogs? Do you have a fenced refuge for your animals? Do you keep the cats from roaming or hunting?

Animal living together

Our cats are indoor - outdoor cats. They live indoors overnight and they eat cat food. They hunt only geckos and other insects. (I know... they are spoiled.)

2 of our dogs stay within the enclosure around the home. These two dogs are very territorial. One other dog lives in the caretaker home that is still vacant (And will likely stay that way.) This dog roams the area and watches the area outside of the home. The fourth dog just showed up one day, undernourished and near death. Since we fed her she just sticks around.

The two dogs living outside the enclosure are watching the area but are not really agressive toward other animals. They are used to other dogs passing by. they don't mind the cats, chickens, horses or the oxen.

All of our animals arrived at different times and they simply got used to each other.

street dogs

luckily street dogs are not territorial. They won't bother another animal or person unless they are very hungry..My feral cat spends lot's of time up on the red tile roofs with the other "roof cats" Hunting snakes, bugs, birds and various vermin. Dogs and cats both free range and "owned" wander the streets, but the cats still spend most of their time up on the roofs. And are only seen in the streets after say nine or so at night.....With the open nature of Spanish style houses it is next to impossible to lock up your animal in the house. There is no kitty litter sold anywhere in Nicaragua outside of Managua and even the family I buy cat food from in the market think it's a little weird that I buy special food for a cat? And medical attention for an animal?....you wacky gringos....

Get a harness

I have to cats, both are spray and neutered. The male is a house cat, has never been outside execept when I take him out with his harness. otherwise during the daytime he is tied up just like a dog and in the evenings he sleeps in a spare bedroom with the other cat whom is his mother and has spend most of her life wandering and now won't even step out of the spare bedroom. People laugh at seeing my cat tied up like a dog with a harness and all but I am not willing to see anything bad happen to him and besides hes used to being tied up. I get the kitty litter at Price Mart and the food also here. Although I live in Granada I don't like the clinics they have here so I go to Clinica Raymari in managua for any medical care for the cats or the 3 dogs I have.

Clínica Raymari

is where I took my adopted kitty when I lived in Granada. The clinic is right down the street from my uncle's house (in MGA). It's a great place. How did you find out about them? I'd bet from Kit, right?

Clinica Raymari is the best but...

it's cruel to keep your cat, or any animal for that matter, tied up all day. I wouldn't want to see anything to happen to you either. Where's the rope...?

My dog stays inside too, but I walk her and take her to the park to play futbol because it is the right thing to do (for her).

just to clarify, the three

just to clarify, the three dogs roam the house freely and I take em out for a drive constantly. The male cat is a different story. Cats are able to find ways to sneak out regardless so tying him up during the daytime with a harness and a 25 foot rope is for his safety. At night he is free to roam around his room. He gets more love and care than most cats and even though he is tied up its always next to someone so he doesn't feel alone. I take him out for small walks but he hates to go for rides in the truck. The female cat is free to roam because she won't wander outside under any circumstances it now frightens her.
