The Real News Network Talkathon 2008

Submitted by fyl on 22 June, 2008 - 06:40.

I have posted links to some news presented by The Real News Network. Some of the responses stated that they were biased ... Well, in the 24th you can call in and tell them what you think. To me, it sounds like they what to listen to what you think and what you want. Pretty nice for a "news service". Too bad governments don't do this.

Innovative Development?

What is the difference between this and every talk radio program broadcasting every day through out the world? Even the Canal 2 program run by strident anti Sandinista commentator Jaime Arellano takes public comment every week. The sad thing is that TRNN is just starting now. Lets see how long it lasts if they start getting negative comment.

A lot

First, this is not about "a commentator" taking phone calls. It is about a news network offering 2 hours of call-in time for the "watchers" (it is video content) to talk about what they want. As for the "just starting now" part, TRNN is new. It is, in fact, still in beta testing. Here is their mission statement which should explain why they will listen to their viewers.
Our Mission

The Real News Network is a television news and documentary network focused on providing independent and uncompromising journalism.

Our staff, in collaboration with courageous journalists around the globe, will investigate, report and debate stories on the critical issues of our times.

We are member supported and do not accept advertising, government or corporate funding.

Thus, if their viewers don't like them, they will go away. To me, this is a lot better than "if their advertisers don't like them, they will go away" news.

Once again you

have it ass backwards. Here is what you wrote;

Thus, if their viewers don't like them, they will go away. To me, this is a lot better than "if their advertisers don't like them, they will go away" news.

Wrong! If there are not viewers (or not good viewership) advertisers bolt quick. That is just sane business...and as we all know from you many lectures on the evil corporations, why do something f it doesn't pay. On the other hand, shows supported by "causes" stay on even with poor viewership. since they didn't depend on ad support from the start the lack of it doesn't daunt them so it they chug merrily along. Not all that bad in some cases as they serve us well, just don't interest a lot of people. So, the judge of your show not be anything beyond wanting to keep it on the air to foster a viewpoint. ATZ

Independent?

In reply to your comment and the mission statement, these "journalists" are not independent, nor are they uncompromising. When you look at the prior publications of their editors and staffers they are one sided extolling socialist viewpoints. Sorry, but that is a fact. Obviously you have an interest in continuing to push this point of view on this site. You are the owner and moderator and have that right. However, please dont be upset when it is not accepted as innovative or true. As to your second point, I would be very interested in knowing where TRNN gets its funding to determine who or whom is really calling the shots.
