receiving regular correspondence in NicaSubmitted by Amanda on 12 June, 2008 - 12:22.
wondering if anyone is still using nicabox and how they are with private correspondence...organized, flaky, ect...either way i will probably have all mail sent to a friend here (Miami) and forwarded by her (either to nicabox or directly to us in Granada)...that way i don't have to pay to receive 50 unwanted catalogs...if you are using them, do you think nicabox is worth it(seems pricy to me)? also how fast is us to nica via regular mail usually? If you are going to receive packages
the cheapest is Access USA. They definitely can help you get stuff into the country that you buy online for the cheapest rate. I have been using them for a couple of years...http://www.myus.com
But there are mail services that will scan your mail online so you can decide what to forward and what to discard. Do a search on google for mail forwarding.

regular mail
For correspondence, I use regular mail and have had no problems. My general experience has been 8-10 days for things mailed in the U.S., more like 5 for things from the UK, Canada, Spain and Australia so I guess we know where the problem is.
If you have someone to sort out the junk, great. If not, I have nad good experiences with http://www.usglobalmail.com/. They email you when something arrives and their web site allows you to throw away junk and pick and choose what to forward, by what method and to where. They will repackage for you.
Three days difference is a problem?
Come on. You don't seem all that demanding, so this seems like a non-problem being classified as one. Bad mental hygiene. Lighten up. I am sure there is not plot to delay the mail coming hre from the US. Or maybe there is. Actually, it is because the British postal system is geared for international mail in a special way. We used them for mailing to international lists and for international pubs jsut for that reason. Part of the remments of the empire I guess.

Some history
See http://www.nicaliving.com/node/5596 for a well-documented example. The time is one issue. The other is that I think this explains why postage rates are so high in the U.S.—they have to rent a lot of warehouses to store packages and a lot of trucks to move them around the Los Angeles area.
You would
bitch if they got it to you overnight. We all have come to expect that, so please continue, it keeps us entertained. What is nice is that you do not discriminate....almost everyone you deal with (and many you do not) feel your ire.

Mail
I sent mail from Miami and from Princeton NJ to Granada. One week (actually 8 days) for both.
I've read a lot on here about how slow it is and that attributed to the US mail, but 8 days means there cannot be that much delay anyplace.
i am going to try having a local person forward to me..4-5 pieces at a time in a bigger envelope when I move. Be good to have someone screen the junk.
