did the rain do any damage to pochomil, masachapa, or montelimar
other than
a few fallen trees and a few ticky huts blown away, everything is normal, I was there the 29th-30th Montelimar that is. No land slides on the way down from los cruzeros San Rafael Del Sur either.

In addition to the rain
In addition to the rain which was widespread, Leon was hit by high winds on Thursday night, with a number of trees down, taking power lines with them. But Poneloya was hit particularly hard, with many of the bars along the beach front completely demolished, and quite a few houses damaged. So there was quite a localised area of very high winds, which caused significant damage. I could post some photos if I could figure out how.

Hotel Suyapa
What is the status of Hotel Suyapa? Great food by the way.
Hotel Suyapa
It was operating on Sunday (barely) as there was no energy in Las Penitas or Poneloya.
damage/weather in las penitas
can you tell us more about what the damage is like there? And how the people are... and how the weather is.... are things drying out there for everyone? Did Hotelito Oasis make out okay... and Barca de Oro?
Damagea to Hotel Playa Roca in Las Penitas
Hotelito Oasis lost their roofing and both ranchos but the buildings are secure. Patric is in the process of reconstructing Oasis and is moving along at a good clip. He is planning to have everything A-OK before July.
Things are drying out but the damage in Las Penitas was severe. Playa Roca lost all the roofing (techo) as well as the second floor of our beautiful rancho. Boom! It was gone in 30 seconds. We have installed new techo and have opened the dorm and private rooms on the north property. The second floor of the rancho is forthcoming. The restaurant and bar have been opened since the "day after" and customers have been very understanding of the construction process. We could never have cleaned up the site without the extraordinary efforts of our entire staff. They were great! The rocks and Pacific Ocean remain as beautiful as ever. And the sunsets...well, no matter the weather, some things will never change.
Las Peñitas
Cookie, It sounds like your great attitude will see you through anything! I was wondering if you can give a report on how La Samaki made it through? And also, how Patricio did in the the finals of the contest at the end of April? He borrowed my daughter's board for Saturday, but we had to leave before Sunday(we were the family from Florida) Thanks and all the best.

Alma
Hello to you and your family.
La Samaki came through almost unscathed. The had a slight chip in their techo caused by the neighbor's roof. Otherwise, nada. That entire area was almost untouched by the storm since it seemed to follow the coast rather than the estuary area. Pita and Gordon went to Leon shortly thereafter and stayed four or five nights because we were without electricity for 14 days!
Patricio made it to the semifinals in the surfing competition and we are really proud of him. Our thanks to your daughter for the use of the board. You can see photos of him at the Nica Surf site.
Best of luck to you during the hurricane season in Florida. Cookie
Rain
Yesterday was worse than Alma, it rained so hard that I got stuck in Managua, the PA hwy got damaged at Crusero, and a lot of other roads. It was probably the worst rain I have ever seen in my life. You can look it up at La Prensa. Roger
