Basic solar power part2Submitted by Doug on 30 May, 2008 - 23:44.
Xantrex C40 Charge Controller. Power from the solar panel goes in, battery temperature (yellow wire) is monitored, voltage is measured, and a charging sequence is maintained. This unit has 3 stages of charging (bulk, absorption and float). Bulk charging works like an automotive battery. However, once the batteries reach various states of charge (almost full and totally full), the charger accounts for this by changing the amps and voltage of the energy it is putting into the battery. Once fully charged, the "three stage charger" will taper off its power to the battery keeping it from over charging. Breakers and disconnects for the panels and the batteries. ( categories: )
