A Bullet or a Swiss Bank Account

Recently, I have heard people suggest that Ortega has a Swiss bank account and is funding that instead of helping the poor. Well, a friend just emailed me a link to an article titled A Bullet or a Swiss Bank Account. It is a short article which contains a video.

The Video is 90% John Perkins being interviewed on Democracy Now. It is precisely about the choices third world leaders get offered including Perkins' personal experiences in doing this.

The first question is whether Perkins is just telling a big lie or this is reality? Assuming it is reality, has anything changed today? Specifically, has Latin American nationalism reached a critical mass which will bring an end to this tactic? What should Ortega/Nicaragua be doing?

Yes, I have a pile of facts and a pile of personal opinion but it is your turn.

Your SPAM sounds pretty shady to me

No name of bank, No real info just send me your $100.--.

You talk about banking secrecy. The only secret will be where to find you after you run off with the money.

World Empire

I watched the video and I have to be honest. I am no fan of Corporations here in the States. I think the Government makes it cleat that Corporate rights are more important the an individual's rights. I think this guy is a little wacky. Considering the price of oil, our Empire must be crumbling to the ground in front of us.

I am sure the Government and Corporate America do use high pressure tactics to get the deal brokered, but no where to the extent the speaker claims.

Sorry. Link is now fixed.

pretty interesting...

While it is pretty tough to drink the kool-aid from this one video, nor can you paint this as an open and shut case, the fact is, Latin Nationalists historically dont have a long life expectancy. If you study the history of the region, the further back you go, the the more blatant the US intervention was on behalf of US business interests. I think the US has gotten better about hiding their methods and motives, but I personally think that there is plenty of fire to go with all the smoke he is talking about. I have been meaning to get his book.

I think a fun question to debate is whether the recent shift to the left of various Latin American Governments(no debate on that): Is a result of the change of the times, that we live in a world where the old rules don't hold, or is it a back lash against US policy, or a combo?

if you see someone who has lost their smile, give them one of yours

Reminds me of (U.S. Policy)

The Coalition of the willing. For those that are not willing we'll do it anyway. It's hard not to forget that Mammoth Corporations have more power than many countries and that for many countries the "Global Economy" is just a buzzword for when the U.S. Economy is doing great. if you were cynical you could say that the Chinese are financing the U.S. war in Iraq.
