Portable Light ProjectSubmitted by Daddy-YO on 19 May, 2008 - 19:05.
Shown yesterday on CBS’s Sunday Morning, the technology is impressive. “The luminous Reading Mat prototype integrates high brightness LEDs and flexible photovoltaic (solar cell) technology in a textile medium that weighs less than 8 ounces. It can be rolled or folded for shipping or transport and is easily carried. The Portable Light mat is a fully self-contained and produces up to 12 volts of DC electrical power and 160 lumens of light in five hours of charge time. At night, it emits up to four hours of white, digital light.” from http://www.portablelight.org/intro.html The catch: no price is mentioned, but they do ask for contributions to enlighten the poor in Mexico’s mountains. It is reminiscent of India's Mightylight Solar Light discussed here, http://www.nicaliving.com/node/10887
