In a recent NicaNet article, I found the following. Seems pretty important.

The Rest Of The Story
The reason the German Parliament cut the six million dollars in Nicaraguan budget support, per the spokesman of the Liberal party of the German Parliament was for the waste of money by the Ortega administraton. In an exclusive interview granted to La Prensa of Nicaragua, Werner Hoyer a member of the German Parliament, stated that UGANDA was more transparent in disclosure of the use of foreign aid than Nicaragua. He went on to state that the Ortega government was wasting the aid funds through an absurd style of government. He further stated if the Ortega administration achieved greater governability than the funds could be reinstated but that would entail a commitment to fight corruption, achieve governability and show respect for other governmental institutions. This is a direct quote from a member of the German Parliament not a rehash from yet another pro sandinista source.
Thanks for that viewpoint
from an opposition member of the Germans Parliament. I'm not sure if I would take what he says as Gospel..not knowing anything about the struggles of Germany these days.. I do have audacity and hope that "Politicians" are becoming more adept at spending my/youse Tax Dollars. At least in Canada. Where I live and pay taxes. Less Taxes I pay, by the way, the more I spend on Nicaragua.
This would have nothing to do
with the close ties of the German govmt. to the Bush administration?????
An interesting proposition
I spent some time thinking about an orchestrated diplomatic move by the Bush government acting with the German parliament to cut off aid to the Ortega regime. However, after some thought I came to the conclusion that the Bush neocons are not sufficiently competent to orchestrate a subtle, multi country diplomatic assault on Nicaragua. Moreover, the US state department is still supplying direct budget suport to Nicaragua and USAID and the MILLENIUM CHALLENGE CORPORATION are building roads and infrastructure through out Leon and Chinandega. This proposition would also imply that Sweden is acting as a foil as well which is contrary to their independent foreign policy and firm anti Bush actions in the past. The fact is that the Venezuelan oil aid is not being managed transparently and the lack of disclosure is damaging the image of this government through out the remainder of the donor community.
In your opinion should
In your opinion should German Goverment linked to Bush administration continue monetary support to Daniel Ortega administration?
Doner Countries
Perhaps the Germans are doing the same as the Canadian Government did fairly recently, the amount of countries Canada donated aid to was reduced to a list arrived at due to a number of factors, effiency..getting most of the aid to the designated country at less admin costs was a major issue. Picking Countries most needy (Hard Choices) and where it would do the most good. The premise really was not about politics as much as it was about streamlining, less corruption, and less middle men, inefficiency. Maybe the Germans are doing the same.
