The oil press is here..

I was forced to travel to the far north the find this baby, and what fun US customs at the Peace Arch crossing are, I would love to thank them for the courteous, professional and fair manor in which I was treated...I would, but it ain't so , Canada, you guys ROCK no comparison.

Now what to squish first?

Trucking

I have some good friends in the Trucking business.could do with the business right now, Sounds like you need a quote for a dry van and 18 wheeler to Nicaragua. Every picture tells a story and so far you have posted a few of what we call "Stuff" I think you should be thinking Peterbilts, Freightliners....let me know.

my wife says...

you're a smart-ass.

But you're OK in my book.

This was the last of the big stuff, a couple of books still on the way, when we are out of excuses. So far it's all fit in the 16 foot trailer.

I am wishing I had gone with the school bus idea now, we'll see how difficult it is to sell the van off when we get there.

We should arrive in time to see what a frigin' mess it will be getting the rest of the 'stuff' from Managua to the farm in the rainy season.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate

Timing is everything

You never know, you could always sell the vehicle to Phil Hughes in Esteli for the Geek Ranch. By the way, I would be doing exactly what you are doing, may as well pack what you will need and can't get without a hassle once in Nicaragua. At Least ONCE in your life making the trip. Better make it soon before you have to sell some of the "Stuff" to pay for the gas on the way down.

Wrong vehicle

Actually, Doug and I talked about this. Even a 25' school bus was of interest. But, he bought a Chevy gas van. Oh well.

On the "heavy stuff", I can credit Doug with the lead for the domes we are going to use and while I put off ordering for now, I will be ordering one or more gas generators. When I saw this baby it was another "wow, good idea".

the school bus...

was going to need a special license that in hind sight I wish I had gotten last year. Either put most of the seats in the back or a small trailer to haul the seats and have the interior of the bus to travel in. The used bus brokers I talked with had some sweet deals and they sell very rapidly if they are the right chassis / engine combination. But this way with the 15 passenger van, both of us can take turns driving. And maybe find a hotel or some tour operator that wants the comfort of a larger vehicle for tourist. Or maybe sell the trailer and van to some surfers that are tired of being hassled, stash all the boards and bags in the cargo trailer away from the view of bribe hungry police.

This is the smallest (lightest) screw press I could find. It's rated at 2200 lb/day with a 5 HP power source. If it works out I may get a larger one. An oil seed crop, maybe canola, should do well for one or two harvests a year. A friend of took one to Haiti for a Jatrophra growing project that has worked out great. Another friend has one in Belize and sells virgin cold press coconut oil at a good price. He also is experimenting with cohune palms as they are plentiful in his area. And this size can be powered by one of the small slow speed diesel engines I got from India, they will run on just about any oil you put in them so it can make it's own fuel.

would this press . . .

would this press . . . neem seed for oil?

neem seed

What is that? and what's it used for? the oil I mean.

It would seem that neem...

is used in a lot of stuff, bug spray to toothpaste. The seeds of the neem tree, in India it's used in a lot of skin care products.

in a word..

yes.

the harder shelled nuts may need to be cracked or heated slightly, but need seed should be no problem
