My husband and I are moving to Nicaragua in August, and are looking at Jinotepe....how do we go about finding a decent apartment or house to rent?

I live in Jinotepe
Tell me what you are looking for in terms of price and features.. I can talk to people here to find you a place. Great weather here...
That would be super...we are
That would be super...we are not picky as to size, but would like a clean place...we are only wanting to rent, so an apartment would be fine...tile floor finished ceiling, screens on windows etc. how much would something like go for in the area?
My suggestion
This is how I would do it (beyond doing what you already did--posting here).
Go there, find a reasonable-priced hotel (try to find one that will rent for a week at a time which should be a lot cheaper) and stay.
Go out to lunch, dinner, the grocery store, the bar, the beauty parlor, ... and mention you are looking for a rental house. It is extremely likely you will have what you want in the first week. Word of mouth is king in Nicaragua.
thanks so much...it is a
thanks so much...it is a little nerve wracking heading out not knowing where we are going...any other advice?
Check out and research
Lots of what is available in the archives of this blog. Welcome and keep in touch please with your journey. I spent a week and a bit in Esteli and word of mouth got me at least three potential rentals. I personally liked Jinotepe but would prefer Diriamba, find a place to sleep and go venture. Usual precautions, find a place to stow your documents safely and some cash for a rainy day. Use common sense whatever, get comfortable with the people and Land.
do you mind me throwing it
do you mind me throwing it out there....why do you prefer diriamba over jinotepe?
Jinotepe
My husband and I are building a house in Jinotepe, although we live in the states right now. We plan on moving next year. Have you been to Jinotepe? I like the town, climate, people. We have a house in a subdivision, so I feel quite safe. I have also lived in San Marcos and Granada. Definitely prefer Jinotepe.
