Insulating and Sealing Nicalit

I shipped over some spray foam insulation to help my "Nica Leak" roof stop leaking. it is great product that we use a lot here in florida and works very well in nicaragua also. I am done spraying my home and have some left over if anyone would like to purchase. At one inch it is a water sealant. Also keeps geckos and rats out of the house. Lowered the tempature in the house by 10 degrees.

Foam

Yes it is very similiar. This is a 2 part closed cell foam. I have them in 60 pound containers. Each container yields 600 square feet at 1" thickness. Every inch gives you r-7 insulation value. At 1" it is acceptable water sealant with a perm rating equal to plastic.

They are $295.00 per a kit. Each kit comes with 75 foot gun hose assembly and 30 tips.

Proper eye protection is a must. Will be happy to teach you how to apply the product. It is very easy and not hard to do.

Nicalit has Asbestos?

Do you know if nicalit contain Asbetos ?

Nicalit

All of the research i have done is that nicalit is outlawed in most countries. The reason it is outlawed is due to the cracking it does over time and the fact that it does contain asbestos. Copy and paste the following into your browser. Do a google search also for nicalit roofing. I feel as long as the product is sealed i cannot inhale the fibers. I sure wouldn't be caught cutting the product.

Thanks joel5140 . . .

Thanks joel5140 . . . where i s you house in Nica . . ?

Nicalit

Nicalit has not been used in Nicaragua for a while, the company changed their manufacture process and starting using fiber-cement mixture non asbestos called Plycem,I belive that is what Joel is using so there is nothing to be afraid of unless you buy and old house with Nicalit material, very easy to spot nicalit tends to be more brittle than plycem.

plycem or nicalit

This house was built fives years ago and the roofing material is extremely brittle. When did they stop making nicalit? I believe the plycem has a glossy coating to it?

Anyways the roof in this picture has not worked very well. Every spot where the roof is anchored down leaks over time. I painted the roof and sprayed the insulation on the underside and constructed a water tight roof. The main reason for the insulation was air conditioning. I have noticed very little homes have insulation. With people paying $.35 kwhr to $.45 kwhr it simply doesn't make sense not to add insulation.

Insulation vs. leakproofing

While the foam is probably great for insulation there are other products for leakproofing available.

We use "Imperfast". That is a product produced by SUR Paints. We found it to work excellent to combat the problem described above.

The Neoprene washers used in the fastening system for Plycem will begin to lose some of their effectivness over time. Imperfast is a roofing cement reinforced with glass fibre. As standard practice we seal each fastener at time of installation. It seems to be an inexpensive long term solution.

Imperfast is available in White, Black and Red colors. Sur Paint Stores and most hardware stores will carry the product.

imperfast

That sounds like the solution!!!!

Thanks i am going to by some soon. Very grateful for the info.

You don't have to remove anything in order to apply Imperfast.

Just apply it with the finger around the mounting stud and neoprene washer. Make sure you have 6-8 hr of dry weather. The roofing cement will set up with a hard shell over time.

Plycem

I believe it stared to be manufactured when Violeta took power, ( it has been around 18 years),But anyways what you are doing for insulation purposes I think its a great idea, there you may have a business to star as long as you can offer the product at a better price.
