do you

recommend this? how about at sjds for the hillside? what about the dry season?

it is very draught tolerant...

but it suppresses the native plants. It is used on farmland mostly, chopped down for a mulch layer and corn planted.

Long term hillside stabilization would be better done with some native trees. The dry season fires seem to be a concern there any plantings should be done with that in mind.

Invasiveness

How invasive is velvetbean? Can you plant it short-term and then tear it out when native trees and shrubs grow large enough to do the erosion control job?

there are a couple..

of species that don't re-seed themselves very well. Usually this is used on cropland and chopped up pretty fine. If they stopped chopping it would grow until it set seed, some species (there may be over 100) take over 200 days. They die about 45 days after seeding. If it's chopped before seeding it wouldn't be to much of a problem.

Hmmm...

somehow it reminds me of kudzu, that non-native plant that has become a monster out-of-control in the US.

it is a relative..

of kudzu. Before soybeans and petroleum fertilizers became popular this was used to regenerate worn out cotton and tobacco land. It seems to have died out in the south almost completely since the 1920's

LEMON TREE

Will Holt- Boulder Music Corp.-BMI

When I was just a lad of ten, my father said to me, "Come here and take a lesson from the lovely lemon tree." "Don't put your faith in love, my boy", my father said to me, "I fear you'll find that love is like the lovely lemon tree."

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat. Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.

One day beneath the lemon tree, my love and I did lie A girl so sweet that when she smiled the stars rose in the sky. We passed that summer lost in love beneath the lemon tree the music of her laughter hid my father's words from me:

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat. Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.

One day she left without a word. She took away the sun. And in the dark she left behind, I knew what she had done. She'd left me for another, it's a common tale but true. A sadder man but wiser now I sing these words to you:

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat. Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.
