lemon or sour orange?
In my back yard in town I have a tree that produces ugly, bumpy-skinned sour citrus. But, it is not a lemon, it is a sour orange.
Just to add to the confusion, in the finca we have sweet lemons. :-)
Cuban Mojo
Those sour oranges are great for making different types of marinade, Cuban Mojo is sour orange based. Marinate some chicken in just the sour OJ for a night then fry or grill it up. Good stuff. Look online for the Mojo recipe.
Hmmmm...could be..
yellow, little bigger than softball size, thick skin, sour++, I mean really sour.
Now you say there are sweet lemons.... what's next floating lead and sinking corks??

Probably them
Sounds like you have a sour orange alright. My friend Willy used the juice from them instead of vinegar to make a batch of kim che.
The sweet lemons are actually the bigger surprise. Out of season now but probably show up in the finca in October or November. One day we brought a bunch back and Margarita sat down and ate about a dozen.
it could be a Ponderosa Lemon..

the photos and description seem to match. And don't the sour oranges turn 'orange' color? These babies stay yellow.
who would have thought there were so many types of citrus, I do have a lot more to learn. So many different trees, onward through the fog...

Yellow
Ours are green almost forever then turn yellow. A few have gone from yellow to more like brown and then fall off the tree. So, I think sour oranges are yellow, sweet lemons are green.
