"Mosquito Coast" --- A Movie Review.Submitted by Miskito Alan on 23 May, 2005 - 15:38.
The movie "Mosquito Coast" starred Harrison Ford. I saw the movie in about 1987 and I thought the picture was very silly. After I made my first trip to "Pearl Lagoon" on the South Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua in 1991, I thought that the movie was very realistic. Bad reviews came from lack of knowledge about the "Mosquito Coast". _________________________________________________________________ http://www.spiritualityhealth.com/newsh/items/moviereview/item_8982.html Allie Fox (Harrison Ford) is an inventor, handyman, and opinionated individualist who is fed up with America's commercialism. He has created an ice machine which makes ice out of fire. He decides to go where he is really needed. He uproots his wife (Helen Mirren), two sons, and twin daughters from their home in rural Massachusetts and takes them to the jungles of Honduras. His eldest son Charlie (River Phoenix) narrates the story. (More with Link) |

Honduras-Belize-Nicaragua
The book (Paul Theroux) / movie (Peter Weir) isn´t really about a place, but the author needs one of a certain kind to flush out Allie´s philosophy. The book is set in Honduras (but of course, could just as well have been Nicaragua). For various reasons it was filmed in Belize, so what you see in not exactly, what you get, if you were on the coast of Honduras or Nicaragua. The book is better than the movie, but that is true of most if not all books. The movie is well-worth watching. Putting a full-length novel on film isnt easy, but Weir and Ford did a very good job. Unlike a lot of the films reviewed here on this nicaliving website, this is one which is on tv regularly, and can be rented easily on VHS or DVD.
