The Güengüense dance warlike around these pale-faced characters in front of Diriamba’s cathedral at the festival for the town’s patron saint San Sebastian, a month ago. I love the forlorn expression on these blue-eyed, blonde-haired ‘captives‘. (They don’t dance.) Their aprons (even headgear) are covered with coins.
