Optometrist

I have been to Nicaragua various times for dental care with the Drs. Madriz in Las Colinas. Now I need glasses. Does anyone have some info on Doctors (Granada preferably) and approximate pricing relative to the US? Thanks in advance.

No great cost savings?

Unlike medical opinions / care, in Latin America there is no great cost savings over the U.S. -in terms of camparing costs for a walk-in office visit- for eyeglasses. The eye exam is next to nothing in Central America, but all eyeglasses I have ever seen are imported and fairly expensive. You could do as recommended below here and buy online, but you do then have two shipping costs, and the risks that go with mailing items into Central America (depends what carrier you use and what rate, etc.). At times I have brought glasses down after getting them online ("eyeglass factory outlet", "$39 Glasses", etc.), but when compared to mailing them regular post or pricier, I bought them locally in Honduras/Nicaragua for elderly friends - even though they were in the $69-99 price range. To North Americans, $75 isn't all that much, but many Central Americans go without glasses much of their life since they cannot afford them. There might be better deals in C.A., but I have not found them - yet.

I went to the clinic west of the parque central on the s/w corner where you turn to go to the market Opticas Matamoros. 50C for an exam in November 2006. You can order glasses cheap online at zennioptical.com and have them shipped to you or someone in the states who can forward them to you(they are light ie cheap to ship). I ve paid as little as $8.95 as much as 50.00 for photogray with titanium frames. Takes two weeks to arrive but the prices are amazing, I thought it was too good to be true. FTT
