Praise for the dentiist!

Let me join the chorus of support for Dr. David Madriz and his wife Martha and offer a short story that tells something about them and perhaps their U.S. counterparts. Before leaving home I was told by my regular dentist that I had two cavities that were so close to the nerve that they would require a root canal and subsequent crown almost immediately. I was a little suspect but mostly I figured I mgiht be able to do better than the approximately $2,400 cost that was being quoted. Under my insurance cap I would still have to pay nearly $400 and all my coverage would be exhausted for 2008. So thanks to this site I was able to connect with the Madriz's. They very agreeable to deal with, answering questions etc. so I decided to make my current trip coincide with the dental work. Their estimate BTW was about $500 for the same work, so I was already happy. But here's the good part. When I arrived at Dr. Madriz he first sat me down and had a long talk (in excellent English) and then took his own x-rays. He described all my options in clearer terms than any U.S. dentist and let me know he thought he could safely do the fillings without doing the other work (between the lines, I had been oversold!) But it was completely my choice. He followed through in a completely hygenic, professional manner and I never suffered a bit of pain. Four days later I can barely remember it happened. My total bill - $100. So there ends my recommendation for a very professional, honest dentist in Nicaragua who I wish I could regularly visit back home.

dr madriz and his wife

tucker- i found dr madriz thru this site and have nothing but praise for him and his wife-i had a $6000 quote in the usa and went to dr madriz-it cost me $1000 for a root canal, bridge, crown, cavities filled and cleaning-he sets you down and explains all the options-he saved 1 of my teeth that my dentist in the u.s. wanted to pull so i will always go to him before any dentist in the u.s.-he was brought up in the bay area and his wife in las vegas and is a brilliant conversationlist along with being a good dentist

Rule, not the exception

My friend Willy is in Estelí and went to Dr. Badilla on my recomendation. Now, my wife says he is way overpriced and prefers other dentists.

But, in any case, Willy paid C$400 (a little over $20) for a cleaning. He was very impressed and is going back tomorrow to have some fillings replaced.

I regularly hear these sorts of stories. That is, that dentists in Nicaragua know how to be dentists and are reasonably priced. If you are in the U.S. and need a crown, you can consider a vacation tossed in for less than the price of the crown in the U.S.
