Ometepe WarningSubmitted by chatwari on 25 January, 2008 - 09:11.
Beware of this guy!! His name is Jose Lazo and he holds himself out as being an attorney, operating out of Moyagalpa, Ometepe. He is a crook who mostly preys on locals, but I heard that he stole many thousands from a couple of "gringos" (don't know their actual nationality) by "selling" them property that was not actually for sale or something like that. He stole $100 from me for a survey that never happened and will never happen. He "represented" the seller in my property purchase, lost or stole a key document, ripped her off and is currently withholding the catastro number in another extortion attempt. BEWARE!! His hat has kind of an unusual point at the top. And, the fake eyeglasses/moustache disguise? Dead give-aways.
Cartoon Villain
This man's appearance is so sinister, one would think that he would have to be honest! He's the archetypical cartoon villain.
I just noticed the three
I just noticed the three mounted shark jaws on the rear wall high up behind the television.
That should have been a clue for anyone who didn't notice the pointy hat, fake glasses & moustache disguise.
SHARK JAWS
HEY WE BUY SHARK JAWS SO IF YOU KNOW ANYONE SELLING THEM PLEASE LET ME KNOW
what about
Jose Lazo's lyin' jaws -- how much per pound??
fresh water sharks
from the lake, I think. And a shark from Moyagalpa
One of the shark's jaws has
One of the shark's jaws has a a rolled-up document in it! Seems like a warning: put your documents into the shark's jaws...
Not to make light of chatwari's situation, which is unfortunately all too common in Nicaragua. No one is immune. It seems to be part of the cost of doing business in Nicaragua. "Allocate $X.XX to first and/or second (or 5th in my case) attorney until you find one that really works."
my "situation"
is going to get resolved, but meanwhile this shark is preying on the people of Ometepe and anyone else he can
We used to get "Groucho"
We used to get "Groucho" disguises like that at the penny candy store when I was a kid, 50 years ago. The glasses, nose, and moustache are all one unit, right?
I'm just so fascinated by the hat. Like what's he got under there that he needs that point? Is the top of his head shaped like that?
This is a brilliant photograph. It tells the whole story on it's own.
thanks
Thats what I was trying to capture. This is his city hat -- changed hat and shoes as soon as we all got back to the island.
I was hoping the act was a joke but unfortunately no.
This photo was taken moments after he threw an entire to-go meal out of the window of the truck into a downtown Rivas street because there was something he hadn't ordered on the plate.
A Bad Sign
Was it in a foam box? Did he chuck the contents AND the non-biodegradable packaging out the window? What a cad! The signals we get that we ignore or supress that later come back to bite us in the tail. Small as it were, that was a bad sign.
foam box
by the time that happened I had already paid for the survey. The seller hired him as her "attorney" -- wasn't my choice. She later fired him.
